I agree Everett has the chance to build a decent program. They are possibly the most underachieving school in D 5-6. It's nice to think you are going to get all of these outside people applying for the job, but the likelihood is that you won't get many, if any. Smith might be your best bet as he seems to be looking to get out of JV. But, that requires job availability for him and the same for any other coach that would come in. With the financial situation school districts are in now, they don't have near the flexibility they used to in hiring "coaches".

Chances are you end up with a retread. Wasn't Kirk a retread even though he came from outside the area? How was his reference check? I heard there were some issues there?? I think if I was at Everett I would be willing to support a 1st time HC. Sam Carroll is a local guy, Everett grad, about 10 years of assistant coaching under his belt. Seems like a good choice to me. Or maybe we hire another guy that has coached in across the country in very short stints, has a losing record and has applied to every PA football position over the past several years without getting hired.

I was at Everett last nite, and got a peek at the weight room. I must say it was very nice and very advanced compared to most schools, however, it obviously isn't translating to the athletes. The majority of athletes on the hoops floor were not toned (i.e. did not look like they were lifting at all) and a couple of the kids were obviously riddled with personality control issues. These are the types of issues the head coach (not just football, but all sports) must solve. There has to be a program that supports the student first and the athlete second at an administration level. I agree X's and O skills are important and comes with experience either by playing and/or coaching, but managing the youthful attitudes into a unified and functional unit is both a skill and an art these days. You need someone who is a leader by speak and example and not by threatening and yelling. OC's and DCs provide their value in the play calling and execution, the HC is the orchestrator and the designer of the total plan. He must understand personnel and their limits. These kinds of attributes are not common, hence most small schools have a hard time finding successful HC's Smith has alot of these skills, hence he is successful, and I believe would be wildly successful at a place that is more supportive than where he is today. If Everett SD is serious, then present serious compensation packages to attract those kinds of candidates. Otherwise run the routine and hope you get lucky.

Everyone knows that Everett's always had good talent but their kids have the worst attitudes in the county. They have more penalties than any team. Did anyone watch their game vs Bedford? How many personal fouls did they commit...4, 5?

Any updates on this position? I haven't heard too much in recent weeks, so not sure what the school board is doing with this.

I heard there were 9 applicants for the position and they will be trying to work that number down to 3 after the first round of interviews. No names were mentioned.
