Congrats BG

Post by districtsixhoops »

Congrats to BG, champions of the Hollidaysburg YMCA summer league. If you can’t beat someone just grab another transfer. Welcome to the club Penn Cambria. Wow, five new players and from the same AAU organization.

Remember back in the spring when I told you they had picked up another transfer but didn't want to say who it was on here because I wasn't 100% sure. Well it was the girl from PC I was talking about. Unbelievable. Anything anyone has to say about the uneven playing field when it comes to this team (not the school because this doesn't go on in any other program) is in my mind completely justified. It's a joke. This from a guy putting making the necessary financial sacrifices to put his 3rd kid through BG because of other things the school has to offer. I can't imagine doing it just to play girls basketball.

It's a joke. Better win all your games and a state title BG. Anything less, with that roster, is unacceptable. It is sad that this is what it has come to in the area in girls basketball. When your coaching Claysburg, Williamsburg and other true single A teams it has to be upsetting to watch BG's roster change so dramatically.

You do know it is the parents that bring this about? Heck if I was a coach and parents were willing to bring their daughters to my school and they happen to be good basketball players I certainly am not going to say no.

The blame starts and ends strictly with the parents. I know way to many of them living their sports dreams through their children, think they D1 athletes and want them to win a state championship. I know of too many dads and moms that want to be on a winning team.

Funny I know of a few that complained about the same thing and then turned around and sent them to BG, BM and BC.

They have already run out of spots on the court. Pretty soon they will be running out of spots on the roster.

It would be almost funny if they would lose in D6 playoffs. Blairsville is going to have a team and BG still has to play the games no matter who is on their roster

What has happened at BG this summer is a COMPLETE JOKE.....and it will never end. The PIAA comes out this spring and voices some concerns about Charter Schools, they turn a blind eye to the privates....and that is what D6 schools have to deal with.

Blairsville was the team to beat on paper this past spring in D6A, not anymore. Crazy to think that the BG "family" is actually proud of their accomplisments, they should be ASHAMED of their program at this time.

I have covered BG as well as many other local private and public schools and I can say that this is very much so ridiculous. Although just like SFB14 said this is something that happens solely with girls basketball. Look at any other roster girls or boys at BG. For example their football team is supposed to be the team to beat in the district and are people going to try to say they do the same thing? I'm just saying the entire sports program there should not be accused for the recruits that they bring in every other day.

If at first you cant succeed, you try again not bail out on your kids and look for better players.

Why do they do it? Because they CAN! Until the D6 leaders grow a pair and put a stop to it, it's going to continue. If it wasn't BG girl's basketball, it would be BC or BMCHS in another sport. Kinda like when George Steinbrenner was throwing money at every baseball star a few years ago. He did it because he could, and the powers that be, let him.

PIAA does not care. All they care about is $$$. If BG had to play in the AAAA playoffs it might be a little different. I think people would think twice before jumping ship so fast. Come on, just think about it, they play in a weak single A playoff bracket. The only teams that will push them are other private schools that do the same thing and the occasional public school that has an outstanding class like Portage or Blairsville this year. BUT, while Blairsville and Portage (last year) have a few outstanding players BG will just continue to run those type of players in the game off the bench. Wonder how much that great education would matter if they had to play in the AAAA bracket because that is what they are. That is a AAAA team. Five new players, all from PaPride. Nobody cared to question the transfers from Bellwood, Altoona, Central and Penn Cambria? Just signed off, right? How about it District 6 committee? It should start with you guys.

Thanks for that link. WOW. I actually know of, and respect, several of the names there. Maybe its like going into the jungle, getting caught up in the 'politics' of the jungle, and actually becoming like a snake to survive. Maybe that's a little harsh, but I hope the analogy comes through. The Hosterman name was amusing as well.
