The same could be true for all the teams.

Portages season exits throughout the last 10 years:

2004 - Blairsville over Portage, 40-26 (PROBABLY Playoff)
2005 - Bellwood over Portage, 28-14 (Playoff)
2006 - Juniata over Portage, 13-0 (PROBABLY Playoff)
2007 - Purchase Line over Portage, 6-0 (Playoff)
2008 - Bishop McCort over Portage, 42-7 (Playoff, D6 game)
2009 - Bellwood over Portage, 28-12 (Playoff)
2010 - Bishop McCort over Portage, 28-20 (Playoff)
2011 - Conemaugh Valley over Portage, 14-13 (Non-playoff)
2012 - Northern Cambria over Portage, 20-14 (Playoff)
2013 - Bishop Guilfoyle over Portage, 42-10 (Playoff)
  • So, out of 10 seasons, 9(?) resulted in playoff losses. Only 3 out of 9 losses were from Catholic Schools. 6 were from public schools.
  • In 2010, when they lost to a Catholic School, it was a very tight game. The team they lost to (BM), went on to lose the D6 game against BC, another Catholic School.
  • In 2008 it was the D6 game, played and lost against Bishop McCort.
  • In 2013 when they lost to another Catholic School, a public school (HC) went on to win the D6 championship game that year.

If someone could confirm that both 2004 and 2006 were playoff games, that would further solidify my argument. I'm not sure about those games.

The fact of the matter is, most of the time, Portage can't even get past other public schools. Why do people think it's the Catholic Schools holding them back?

Also, Congrats to the Mustangs on their fine season this year. Wish them all the best against BG and am truly hoping for an underdog win.

TheBigH the 2006 against Juniata Valley was definitely a playoff game, total mud bowl, both teams wearing green and white and the announcer not being able to recognize one person after the second drive. Ha Ha...I remember it fondly. I'm also 99.9% sure the 2004 game against Blairsville was also a playoff game at Blairsville.

Thanks for the clarification, and thanks for not just calling bullshit on my post. I really hope Portage wins the D6 game, I'm also not a big fan of Catholic Schools, but I just don't like people blaming them for everything.

I have seen these two teams play, BG is a better team all around. The Mustangs run will end on Friday.
