It's unbelievable what you people will do to discredit a team based on the word Bishop in their name. Can we not just be proud of a local team that just won a state title? BG is seriously talented. If you cant see that then you have no football knowledge whatsoever. They matched up well with clariton. Clariton made mistakes and so did BG. Clariton had a chance to win and BG held them. BG is the best single A team in the state. Period.

they are certainly talented but hornets is just frustrated that people are defending a school that has recruited in athletics before when winning state titles.
Re: Berlin and everypne who complsined about having to play
Clairton could have had even more penalty yards. The story of the day was BG's defense playing great team football. They didn't allow the jet sweep as their ends and OLB were terrific. The defensive backs played back and didn't allow the deep ball. Power beat speed and on pretty much every play of the game (including the last one) BG was being held so bad. #55 from Guilfoyle played great and was held repeatedly. It was almost like the officials felt they couldn't call it every play could they????

I also need to add I thought BG would win from the outset. Speed is awesome but physical teams that play as one can do some great things. I felt Clairton would have to have deep ball after deep ball to win.
The Clairton offense was pretty exceptional at running a fast paced offense. They hustled to the ball, got the call, and ran the play with probably only about seconds off the play clock most plays.

Actually Hornet if you've read any of my posts from before you'd know that I wouldn't defend a title from the girls. I'm still waiting on a concrete example of BG "recruiting" and the evidence of it that we can take to the PIAA.
In particular, with this football team which despite all the complaints on here, played with all BG kids yesterday and will continue to be bashed by people unwilling to change their opinions even with presented with facts. If you try to argue that the transfers in girls basketball somehow taints the boys program, I'd again point you to the facts about the makeup of the team. One has nothing to do with the other. I'll never understand why it's so hard to actually credit a local team that epitomizes the things we tell our kids about hard work, perseverance, and dedication.
However, I'm done trying to get through to anyone who can't see that. Despite actual data to the contrary, your narrative is BG players and coaches are undeserving because of the name of their school, and the makeup of a team (girls basketball) that has no involvement with theirs. On that point, we'll just agree to disagree. If another local school (public or private playing with their own players) is in the position BG is now next year, I look forward to acknowledging the accomplishments it took to get there. Thanks for the debate.

One last thing that should be pointed out. Coach mentioned #55 who is Owen Wolf. He played yesterday with a broken bone in his foot that necessitated a special shoe to even play. He didn't practice all week and it wasn't determined until the pre-game if he could even play. He is a returning starter on the basketball team and figures to be our for a while with the injury. He wouldn't be denied yesterday in his last game as a senior and as Coach pointed out was terrific. A really gutty effort by that kid. One of several stories of a player stepping up for his teammates this season.

Im sure you will be saying its a great accomplishment if the BG girls win the state championship as well.SFB14 wrote: Btw, completely agree Crimson. There is nothing that can cheapen what those young men accomplished yesterday.
This is funny coming from a guy at a school (I'm assuming Hornets is Juniata Valley) with three girls from out of the JV school district just transfer in to play basketball.... Pot calling the kettle black...hah.

Their 2 point conversion to give them a 1 point lead was clearly good (on replay) and the previous BG td BG missed a 2 point conversion but was given a second chance after a terrible PI call. All in all though its no different than any other game and clairton had their chance.
Does anyone have a link to watch this replay again? I was at the game live so I didn't see a replay. Several people I know watched the game on TV and I have heard different opinions on the play so I was hoping to see it for myself...
