Discipline VS Sportsmanship

Post by Stonycreek »

via Merriam-Webster
Discipline :: control that is gained by requiring that rules or orders be obeyed and punishing bad behavior
: a way of behaving that shows a willingness to obey rules or orders
: behavior that is judged by how well it follows a set of rules or orders

Sportsmanship: fair play, respect for opponents, and polite behavior by someone who is competing in a sport or other competition

So the question is, with two different posters, posting about two different wrestlers and there lack of sportsmanship, if wrestling teaches discipline where does sportsmanship come from? Coaches, parents, maturity? I know these kids are not fully matured (and neither are some adults) so I can understand to a point when frustration turns into something not seen as good sportsmanship. Shaking a fellow opponents hand after a tough lose (whether you think the ref was to blame or not) is a sign of sportsmanship and discipline. Foul language is a whole different story. Imo.

What was seen last night at the NBC match was pure unsportsmanlike. No doubt about it.
