Juniata Valley

Post by Icoach »

Would someone please explain to me what is going on at Juniata Valley? I notice Mike Reed's daughter now plays there…along with other girls from his Dynamite Team. Is this accurate? There have been so many threads about BG recruiting and I think we all can agree that it happens, but some people have posted about JV also recruiting or maybe saying accepting move ins is a better way to put it…..What are the details here? Is this a Mike Reed thing?

My question... Have these families done anything illegal? Absolutley not. What's wrong with being able to choose where our kids can attend school? By either paying tuition or by buying a home within the school district. Your question... Is this a Mike Reed thing? Not quite sure what that means but maybe it's just as simple as a do what's best for your kid thing. As parents, shouldn't we all do that?

Dude, you answered your own question. Yes, indeed there is nothing illegal if they are paying tuition or bought a house. I was just asking the particulars, because I simply didn't know the details. There have been posts/threads on here saying that JV is as guilty as BG. As for the "Mike Reed" thing…I was just asking, because the box scores included his daughter and others from his AAU team. That is all. So I guess what is going on in JV is good sound ethics and nothing illegal. I was just trying to gather the facts.

it might not be illegal, but in my book it sure is unethical. from what I know to be facts are this: Mike and has a living arrangement in the Valley school district where his older daughter is living with while his wife and younger daughter are still in the Ridge school district. In fact his wife is coaching his younger daughter t the junior high level. I guess that situation is legit. The 2 girls from NBC still life in that school district and travel to Valley to attend school and play basketball. Legal yes, ethical no. There is girl from Altoona on the team also, not sure of her situation because I do not know about Blair County as much. The unethical part is when The Valley coach has been seen at another Bedford County school and is making inferences about another member of the famous AAU squad to join her teammates on the Valley team. That is the unethical part of going around and exploring the possibilities of having people transfer schools for athleticl purposes. In the PIAA handbook it is suppose to be illegal. We are know that if a law isn't enforced then it isn't illegal, but I think it is still unethical. Others might not agree, that is their choice.

The story is old news. Heck the season is almost over, and yet the bark is getting louder and louder. Just give it time. These families will eventually realize that Juniata Valley is a great school, however if they came to play basketball because of the coach, that is will they will soon learn their mistake. Just because you can play, doesn't mean you can coach. Just because you are a wife/mother doesn't mean you have a caring nature or attitude. These girls are winning together because they have talent, NOT because they have a great coach. Its interesting to watch them play. I watched them at an away game and they barely look to the bench for guidance. The woman is riding their shirt tales and will then take all the recognition as if she is responsible for their performance. Obviously they had a good coach throughout their AAU time together. I wish the girls good luck in the playoffs. As for the coach.......SIT THE BENCH!
