Re: Bellwood girls
I stand by my original post. It was short and to my point. I get it that you want to defend your article. I don't care about the article but the way this program goes about their business. It's no big secret.
If you want to go there, IMO, he didn't give McCort any credit in your article and its par for the course. If he said anything to you otherwise it didn't make it in there. In all honesty I don't read the entire article in any paper. I read the quotes from the coaches and players. I guess if you call him saying they missed shots they normally make because of McCort's size as giving them credit than yea, he did. I don't think it is.
In any case, good luck to them and Bishop McCort. I didn't think McCort would win that game and THEY DID. The article seems to want you to believe Bellwood lost the game instead.
Good luck to Everett also. I know their players and coaches well. They won't be intimidated and have just played them twice not long ago.

How the program goes about their business? If by that you mean a successful one, well then thank you! Coach Swaney is deeply rooted in not only the high school team but the elementary program as well. It is a year round interest for him and I personally believe that he genuinely cares about each and every one of those girls. I refuse to apologize for the fact that he puts an extremely talented group of girls on the court year in and year out.
Re: Bellwood girls
It's not wanting to defend the article, districtsixhoops, it's explaining something to a couple of people in this thread. One of those things is that just because a quote from the coach crediting the other team doesn't make it into the article doesn't mean he didn't say it. I am telling you he said it. I don't really understand why you still want to stick by "your article didn't have a quote giving McCort credit so he didn't give it." He did.
You can have an issue with him playing starters too long against overmatched opposition ... I've heard that from a number of people, so I think there's a fair discussion or criticism there. But to refuse to believe he didn't say anything praising McCort just because it didn't get into the article when the reporter is telling you otherwise ... I just don't know what else to say to that.

Re: Bellwood girls
Well coming from the northern end of Blair County and watching both Tyrone and Bellwood several times this yearI just had to jump in on this one.
First old D6Hoops must have a scrapbook full of quotes, pictures, etc., of his # 1 enemy Mr. Swaney.
My gosh its only a game, settle down. I'm sure at some time after the game on Saturday Mr. Swaney did
give credit to Bishop McCort. The high schools in this area cannot do what the professional or college teams
can do and thats retreat to the locker room, have a cooling off period and then talk to the media.
I'm guessing Mr. Swaney has ruffled your feathers in the past and you my friend cannot get over it.
As far as Mr. Cmor the Altoona Mirror is fortunate in having him working there. A good reporter on all the
sports that he covers.
My complaint for Sundays article was the harsh quote by Miss Hollen.
I just wish the "God help them" was left out of the article. This is not referring to bulletin board material either.
With the ugliness throughout our world I would say Gods help is needed elsewhere.
In closing good luck to all of our central pa teams in the coming 2 weeks.

Re: Bellwood girls
Swaney lost the game for his team. BA had a significant lead and McCort was just about feeling the nail in the coffin….when BA should have slowed the game down and ran some clock, they were firing up shots they did not need to take and McCort got out the crowbar and started to remove the nails. Swaney is a good coach with too much experience to not recognize what was happening, but instead he was too busy whining at the refs (as the pic showed in the AM) and even perhaps had too much confidence in his self-proclaimed "best guards" on the floor….regardless Bellwood lost! McCort is a good team and I commend their guards down the stretch of that game, because they made noise on the floor as Bellwood fell apart. As for the quote in the paper, I think we all have to remember we are not interviewing adults here…..her response was how she was feeling….could parts of it been left out…I guess so…..I don't blame her for saying "God help them" ….but like I said …i could have been left out too…either way….we can all agree that the loss stung Bellwood a little. I do see them coming on strong this weekend. They are a very good team…..so is McCort. I believe D-6 girls have some nice teams representing our part of the state.
