Re: Chestnut Ridge
Yea Northern Bedford was good at track the past few years, Bedford and CR had a couple good kids the past few years too. At some point Bedford won the LHAC. Bedford made the playoffs in soccer and won a few games the past few years. You seemed to recall some OUTSTANDING soccer teams the past few years. They had someone win at Tennis...lol and someone won a state title in softball not long ago, but long enough ago that you don't know.
Did I nail it?
Wrestling, like I've already said, I agree...D5 is consistently strong.

Re: Chestnut Ridge
Peter Riley won the state tennis title in (I believe '10 or '11), you can laugh at the accomplishment if you want.
Fannett Metal win the 2013 state A softball championship.

I'm not laughing necessarily at the fact he won the state title, that's awesome. I'm laughing at the fact that this was a discussion on mainly baseball, basketball, foootball (the big 3) and now it's stretched to tennis....we all know the tennis thread is always where the big/hot topics go down!
Should I start looking up how many times a D6 school has won the Scholastic Quiz? Should we start talking Cheerleading too?

Re: Chestnut Ridge
So lets look at your statements just wrestle. It seems apparent with a state championship team just a few short years ago district 5 softball has competition. Track, well with numerous gold and silver medals the past three years at states and considering the top two teams point wise at west central last year were both district 5 I would call that competitive. As far as volleyball goes Ridge, Bedford and Everett have been traditionally strong in that sport. Your whole sub par competition theory is a joke!JustWrestle wrote:The competition really isn't there. Maybe you mean they're competitive with themselves, within District 5. I looked back at last year at the sports mentioned....usatf oldguy wrote: The competition is there in other sports too. Ridge and other district 5 schools have had very competitive teams in many of the other sports you speak of. Many of the softball teams and volleyball and track teams have done very well on a local and state level. District 5 track has done very well over the past five years. With quite a few top 3 finishers at the state meet and very good over all teams. They have won and placed very high at the west central coaches meet several years which speaks volumes. I personally think the schools need to bring back local leagues. Like the old Bedford county league, in all sports. it is ludicrous to run all over when so much more money could be saved and invested in the programs if they went back to the old system. Heck the biggest gate comes from backyard rivals anyhow, not to mention the savings in travel expenses.
- A & AA Softball both lost in the 1st round of state playoffs.
- Boys AA Track, D5 had 4 teams in the Top 80....while D6 had 10 teams
- Girls AA Track, D5 didn't score a single point. D6 had 8 teams score and place in the top 67.
- Girls A Volleyball, lost 1st round of state playoffs.
Look, District 5 has a good team here and there, can't deny that. What it comes down to is these teams get inflated records because they play against sub-par competition most of the year. Put these teams in District 6 and watch there records and results become more average. Maybe you can look back at the past and find a team here and there that would succeed in District 6 but year in and year out District 5 just isn't at the same level as District 6.
Re: Chestnut Ridge
I wouldn't compare tennis to scholastic quiz. Tennis may require more true athleticism than any sport discussed here on this board. You comparing a tennis state championship to scholastic quiz, really could be quite disrespectful to one of the few individual state champions D5 and D6 has had in the past several years. I those that support D5 really wanted to stretch their argument to include events no commonly discussed, the 2 Olympians (include a bronze medalist) could quickly be included.

Let me know when you guys want to talk baseball, basketball or football. I'm not going to continually have a mindless debate about sports the majority of people on here don't care about. Like I said in my initial post on this thread that pertained to CR winning D5 in multiple sports. Let CR in District 6 and see if they win those titles.

Re: Chestnut Ridge
I thought that's why they divided the state into "districts".......Maybe I missed that part.....put any D6 team in D7 and see what happens..........Sound silly? I agree!!!!!!!! Congrats to the Lady Mustangs for their run in basketball...Final 4 in the state and they were 4th in D6.....3rd in the WeakPac for crying out loud. There were 8 teams better than Portage in the west!!!! Sometimes it is just they way things work out.....Chestnut Ridge plays everyone they need in their "district" Congrats to them as well!

Portage did beat the District 5 Champion in Tussey Mountain in the first round of the state playoffs though. So you can 4th in D6 and WeakPac call out all you want ;)GetitRight wrote:I thought that's why they divided the state into "districts".......Maybe I missed that part.....put any D6 team in D7 and see what happens..........Sound silly? Re: Chestnut Ridge
I think the original topic was about football, basketball, and wrestling. I don't think this topic wasn't started as a debate. I think someone asked if it had ever happened in D6.
Wrestling has already been conceded to D5. Most years I would say even the D5 #2 is better than the D6 #1 team. Bedford has made it to the state team semi's twice, 2008 and 2012 and placed 4th in 2009. Ridge placed 4th in 2013 and 2nd in 2015. Has a D6 team ever placed?
For sure D6 is stronger in football and basketball. They should be in EVERY sport. They have more schools and a greater population base. And private schools.
D5 should be with D6 in football. I liked it when they were combined in AA at least. I think A should still be separated. I wouldn't say D5 AA teams would never win a championship but the road is 100% tougher than just winning a D5 championship. But Bedford was consistently at the top of the LHAC from the 80's through the early 2000's, averaging an undefeated season every 3 or 4 years. And that is a D6 conference with some very good teams. Things fell apart the last 10 years there through a succession of coaching changes but things are coming back around. However, they are notorious for doing poorly in the playoffs no matter how well they have done in the regular season. I don't know if any team in D5 has ever advanced past the quarterfinal round in states. Bedford was last there in 2009. Did Somerset get that far this year?
I don't know much about basketball but I do know D6 usually has some strong teams. Outside of the Bishops has either district has a state champion team in A or AA boys or girls?
If you want to throw in baseball, Bedford has been to the state quarters in 2011 and 2014. I know Central has had a couple good runs lately. I think they made the championship game recently.
I'm sure you don't want to discuss soccer but Bedford has won the last 2 or 3 D5/6 championships. Two D5 teams, Bedford and Ridge played for the championship this year. Bedford was in the state semi's in 2012 and 2013.
