Kessel isn't even on the level as giroux, vorachek or simmonds. He's a 2 million dollar player that was overhyped and gave a huge 8 year contract in Toronto where after 3 years he is getting dumped because they figure he is a mistake. If he was as good as you say then Toronto wouldn't be dumping him but keeping him for the rebuild

This past year kessel has 61 points, a low with toronto, and a -34 plus minus. Just under half his career total of -75

He's scored more goals in the last 5 years than every single player in the NHL except for 4. How do you explain that? 30+ goal scorers make $6+ mil all day long.

You can ignore facts all day long but you just make yourself look even dumber each and every day.

What good is scoring goals if you give up more than you produce..... players who do well in +- have performed very very well in recent post seasons. The linkage is there yet people ignore it for goals.

You spelled Voracek wrong first of all.

And please tell me you just didn't say Wayne Simmonds is a better player than Kessel

Where kessel has a slight advantage I'm offensive skill I think simmonds is a much better defensive player than kessel. So yes I see more than offense in a player so I think simmonds is better than kessel who is a very poor defender

So then is Kessel another, more expensive Mike Neal? I was willing to overlook Neal's defensive shortcomings as long as he was lighting the lamp, but the front office thought better.

The more I think about it, the more I realize how similar Giroux and Kessel are:

They are both world class players.

They both have failed to ever lead their teams to anything relevant

They both look like a guy you would find at a back woods dive bar at 1:47 am on a Tuesday.

Pretty interesting read here... guess this dispels Konjos notion that Crosby/Malkin aren't "clutch". It also shows what everyone else already knows... it's about team depth in the playoffs and not top end talent. I think the Pens are much improved and headed in the right direction, in that sense.
