2014-15 Top 30 NHL players
Re: 2014-15 Top 30 NHL players
Toews wasn't even the best player on HIS TEAM in just THESE PLAYOFFS. Let alone the whole league for the whole season.
Toews: still my #2. Didn't do anything out of the ordinary to separate himself.
Patrick Kane was nonexistent for the whole series until last night. Don't give him more credit than he deserves.
Bishop played on a severely injured groin and IMO outplayed Crawford.

Both of them had more of an impact than Sidney has had in years in the playoffs. So if we are using your code he shouldnt even be top 30
Re: 2014-15 Top 30 NHL players
Right around the corner; here's my preseason list. This is in between 2 papers I'm doing for school so sorry if my grammar and/or spelling is garbage. my brain is fried, I'm bored, and it's time I weigh in on this debate.
50. Ryan Kesler - Premier Two way player, temper is about the only thing that brings his game down sometimes.
49. Marc Giordano - I thought was the best defenseman in the league THIS YEAR. He has a low ceiling though, play doesn't change much and is just consistently good (as if that's a bad thing).
48. Phil Kessel - probably comparable to Ovechkin. Only reason he's this low is because his tendency to drop towards the middle/ends of seasons. He will be much higher after the end of this season for sure.
47. Oliver Ekman-Larsson - very calculated and smart offensive defenseman. He's got a rare ability to light up the lamp regularly while being shut down and detrimental to his teams defensive stands.
46. Roman Josi - I've always loved Josi. Strong skater with unreal hands, and playing by Weber allowed him to showcase his natural offensive abilities this year.
45. Corey Schneider - Plays for arguably the shittiest team in the league and has to stand on his head every night. Guy deserves probably higher but there are definitely better goalies.
44. Ryan Johansen - big, strong, and silky smooth hands
43. Frederik Andersen - he has a hell of a team in front of him but he makes plays when he needs to
42. Alex Pietrangelo - Hard working, unselfish, and determined character. He brings one hell of a deck to the table for the already loaded Blues.
41. Jakub Voracek - such an amazing season. Incredible finishing skills. I'd say one of the quickest releases in the league.
40. Sergei Bobrovsky - big, imposing goalie. Hard to find holes to shoot at. Rebound control and quickness will continue to plague the otherwise unstoppable Bob The Goalie though.
39. Max Pacioretty - another great finisher that also possesses great off puck movement that opens up situations for his teammates. A true good reader of the game.
38. Jiri Hudler - I think probably the most underrated player in the game. Guy just has a knack for getting on the scoresheet.
37. Marc-Andre Fleury - hate all you want, no doubt after this year he belongs on this list. If not higher.
36. Taylor Hall - his stock is dropping fast. He needs a good year.
35. Marian Hossa - can't deny his hard nosed play every time he steps on the ice. It's no wonder he gets rewarded with the goals, assists, and hardware that he does.
34. Braden Holtby - simple: impressive season, impressive playoffs. Excited to watch him this year.
33. Joe Pavelski - every single year he brings it. Even when everything else around him crumbles he goes.
32. Claude Giroux - world class player with a go hard or go home attitude. Needs to work on finer points of his game and knowing that he has teammates that can share the workload.
31. P.K Subban - some might ask why so low? He spends half his time in the penalty box. Can't win if you aren't on the ice.
30. Zach Parise - complete player
29. Henrik Zetterberg - one of the elite passers in the game. I've heard some say that say only Crosby, Backstrom and Tavares see the ice better than him.
28. Pavel Datsyuk - had a hard time choosing him over Zet but his hands are simply a world ahead of anybody's.
27. Victor Hedman - this young fearsome big man will someday probably be at the top of this list.
26. Corey Perry - I don't like the guy but no doubt a very skilled player.
25. Vladimir Tarasenko - animal
24. Erik Karlsson - Love the way he plays, I think he gets better and better every time he steps on the ice.
23. Tuuka Rask - dudes unreal reactions are unparalleled. He cracks under pressure too much though.
22. Patrice Bergereon - if anybody questions his positioning I will personally call and ream you out. Most consistent, hard working player in the league combined with his crazy skill. Who knows, maybe he gets better this year?
21. King Henrik - I personally think he's fading really fast and look he is still in the top 30. He's unreal.
20. Jamie Benn - Helps to have the Top 6 he has but nonetheless a tremendous all around player.
19. Patrick Kane - not much you can say. Just a winner man.
18. Pekka Rinne - he always starts off so hot. Contrary to popular belief I don't think he's surrounded by as much depth as everyone thinks.
17. Evgeni Malkin - hate to do this but I'm just saying what I truly think. He NEEDS (and will) have a good year.
16. Ryan Getzlaf - I'm usually much higher on him than this but I just have a feeling he won't have a top 10 type of year.
15. Kris Letang - he will show out even more this year, mark my words.
14. Rick Nash - I think the big man always shows up to play and is still one of the dirtiest puck handlers with some of the silkiest finishes.
13. Nicklas Backstrom - hands down best pure passer in the game. I think toe to toe he beats Crosby any day with his vision. Stick handling is up there as well. His greatest downfall is his timidness. He's too timid to shoot and he's too timid to impose himself.
12. Ryan Suter - nobody works like this guy on the ice.
11. Drew Doughty - I personally think he is a boat load more talented than Keith, but I think Keith flicks a switch in the most important moments.
10. Tyler Seguin - interested to see what this full season will hold for him.
9. John Tavares - shut up a lot of nay Sayers in the playoffs. No telling what he will do this year.
8. John Quick - most talented goalie in the league. I would take him over price any day in a skills competition.
7. Alex Ovechkin - I go against the grain and say Stankos is the better OVERALL player. Ovi is the better pure goalscorer.
6. Shea Weber - no words needed. Cause I don't want to piss him off.
5. Duncan Keith - the playoff minutes, what he does in key critical minutes. How he lays his body on the line and makes consistently unfathomably smart plays at 35:09 minutes of TOI is something that is unprecedented. THATS why he is where he is. I mean let's be honest, Corey Crawford is good at best. Playing behind Duncan Keith he's elite.
4. Carey Price - notice how I said skills competition. Quick has by far the best reactions, quickest feet/hands of any goalie in this league but that's his Achilles heal: he reacts. Carey has an unrivaled ability to read what wingers are gonna do and stops the problem 5 plays ahead of it ever starting. He also commands his Defense better than any goalie in the league.
2. Anze Kopitar - I know I'll get made fun of. I watch him night in night out; his finer points and fundamental abilities are so honed and perfected that I don't think I personally have ever seen him make a mistake. I want to say the cliché thing and say "oh he just does the simple stuff." But no, he does the simple stuff...AND THEN he will walk through your entire team and score on you OR make an almost impossible pass to someone like Jeff Carter's tape and they get a gimme goal. He is a modern Gretzky with a lot more athletic prowess.
2. Johnathan Toews - I hold him and Kopitar in equal respect. The only way I'd give Toews a higher ranking is his cups.
1. Sid - and it's nowhere near even being close. I'll make this analogy: for those of you that played hockey in high school/college/or even just recreationally, imagine playing with a respectably good winger for about 2-3 seasons. You develop a good system, you know his/her strengths. You cite his/her weaknesses. And then all the sudden they get hurt and their replacement is a fourth grade midget player. And that 4th grade midget player doesn't cut it so you play with like 10 more by the time the season ends. That's Crosby literally the past 3 years. And he is still in the top 5 scoring every year. And undeniably carries his line and his team to anywhere they go.
Hope you guys like it. Oh, and if you were wondering where McDavid and Eichel are, I hold neither of them in the top 50. Yes I considered both.

Re: 2014-15 Top 30 NHL players
Dude, absolutely phenomenal list. This is some of the best and most well thought up work I've ever seen anywhere let alone here. I almost agree with every position and your input on each guy is almost perfect. I definitely don't agree with your Malkin ranking but that is literally about it.
I like how you factor in "what will;" you aren't just going by the past. I really like this because we all know how hockey players have historical up and down careers.
Well done man!

Sid should be maybe 8-10.
3 of the top 5 should be keith, toews and kane. If sid was so good he wouldn't disappear in the playoffs.

He can't do it alone, can he? He's still the greatest, and I noted 30-some better than Giroux.
It ain't over until it's over.

Ignore Konjo Jrs, and you too Manfred; he's just trying to incite another argument that will lead to absolutely nowhere. I guarantee just about everyone would agree that this list and sids position on it is spot on.

I'm just pointing out malkin moved to 17 when sid stayed at 1 why? They both have about the same Stateline in playoffs and regular season past few years. But yet you choose not to move sid down?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm something is missing there
