Mountain League Week 4
Huntingdon(2-1) at Clearfield(2-1)
After a good start to the season Huntingdon showed it isn't quite ready for the big boys of the conference. Clearfield on the other hand traveled into the Dragons lair and showed everyone that Central was beatable, forcing 4 Dragon turnovers enroute to a 19-8 upset win. The Eagles dismantled the Cats in the air. Clearfield won't change the recipe as Spaid will look for Lezzer early and often. Coach Janoko's squad is always prepared. Seth Caldwell has back to back 100 yard games and they have started to get FB Tristian Rumery involved in the game plan. Travis Ogden is a real weapon at TE as well. Huntingdon has plenty to defend in this one. Clearfield rolls on.
John Marshall(2-1) at Bellefonte(1-2)
Brad Paisley hometown Monarchs rolled to a 49-20 win last year in Glen Dale. It was a game that really turned on special teams play and turnovers as the Red Raiders struggled to get going on the road. John Marshall is a little behind on the schedule with their conference foe already having 5 games in. Bellefonte is a better football this year. Mark Armstrong will need to step up the offense in this one to give Bellefonte a shot, averaging 64 yards passing wont get it done. It will be interesting to compare though as the Monarchs play mostly a 5A Ohio schedule. John Marshall silences Rogers Stadium.
Central(2-1) at Penns Valley(1-2)
Students, pom poms and war paint won't save the Rams this week. Alexander had a big night against BEA as the Rams scored 2 defensive TD's and a special teams score in the first half. Christian Rudolph had the surprise of the night as the DE came up with a 56 yard pick 6. For the Central faithful ..at least the food will be good!! Coming off the first loss of the season, they get back to business quickly. Central takes out there frustrations on an outmanned Rams team in the Valley.
Philipsburg(0-3) at Tyrone(2-1)
Riding a unwanted streak coming into Grey Vets Field in Tyrone doesn't sound promising for the Mounties. They only gave up 14 points last week at BEA, the bad news is they didn't score either. Tyrone on the other hand is coming in off a win against the Bearcats rolling up over 500 yards in offense and burried the Cats with a 42-14 score before the JV took over in the 4th. Don't look for the starters to be in beyond half time as the streak goes to 21 games.
Game of the Week
Bald Eagle Area(1-2) at Chestnut Ridge(1-2)
Coming off a disappointing week BEA will need to tighten up and try to avoid turnovers on their trip down I 99 to New Paris. Tanner Kreshovich is coming off a multi interception night, and Hunter Hockenberry led the way on the ground with 78 yards for the BEA offense.
After a couple weeks on the Maryland schedule, Ridge returns as an unofficial member of the Mountain League this week in the first of six games against league opponents.Allegany and Fort Hill were not hospitable to the Lions, but they are hoping the Eagles are. One thing for sure this isn't the same Wiley team as last year.
This is a big week for BEA as they try to climb back into the playoff race. Ridge knows that it will be there with Bedford awaiting them. Logan Hauck has taken the reigns of the Lion offense with a dangerous target in Bryan Feather, and Philip Dull to assist with the passing game. The ground game doesn't appear to be as good, only averaging 66 yards a game. That is good news for BEA as they continue to struggle on offense. An early Homecoming night spells a win for Ridge.
