Re: Heritage Conference Championship: Penns Manor vs Ligonier
I don't know where most of you guys are coming from, it's not Beitel's or any of the players fault that they were included in two schools consolidating. I agree that maybe Ligonier should move conferences to play with better competition but besides football, Ligonier Valley isn't really the dominate school in any other sporting event. That being said let's just focus on (7-0) Penns Manor at a (7-0) Ligonier Valley. This is going be a game full of big plays and probably end up with a second half comeback, but both teams play 100 times better in the second half. I think having a D1 player will put LV over PM. We have seen it with Ferens and we have seen a monster performance by Bloom. The game will come down to how Smith performs.

Theoretically, by having the opportunity to chose from more players the chances are you're going to be able to field a team of better players. Some of the schools in the heritage barely have enough to scrimmage each other. Now I know bigger and better is not always the case. If jerry page was coaching them yes... I do believe they would contend every year.

I totally agree with that when you look at athletics as a whole. But when looking at football specifically LV has 50+ on their roster and PM also has 50+ players. Then the argument that LV should leave the heritage just based on that is contradicting and PM should leave as well. More kids choose to play on a winning team is the reason behind it and I don't know about PM but LV allows all freshman to play on the team and they use that. Can't disagree about Coach Paine though, we would use numbers to his advantage every year.

Ligonier does have the best player in smith, but Penns Manor has a more complete team. Do you think Smith can completely take over the game against a really solid Comets team?ScaryGary12 wrote:I don't know where most of you guys are coming from, it's not Beitel's or any of the players fault that they were included in two schools consolidating. I'm saying that it's happened before in the past where Big players (Ferens and Bloom) have big games against Big teams. When these two teams face off they bring the best and worst out of each other, it's a classic rivalry and you have to repeat that. Either team can win the game, I'm pointing out that Smith has the most potential to decide the outcome.d6footballjunky95 wrote:Ligonier does have the best player in smith, but Penns Manor has a more complete team. Penns Manor by 21.
Re: Heritage Conference Championship: Penns Manor vs Ligonier
Apparently LV has an issue with the reporting by Indiana County sources. When they were playing Huntingdon a couple weeks ago, the local Blairsville radio color commentator was asked by the play by play guy if he was surprised by the 21-7 score at halftime. He said no. LV was playing someone that is AA, unlike all of the A teams in the Heritage, and the game will be close. Well the principal of LV called the radio station and complained about unfair treatment. He made a statement something to the fact that "the whole valley is upset". To me this is a totally ridiculous attitude to have. You may feel that way but to call and cry about a comment. Come on. Obviously this had to originate from the head coach, everyone's favorite.

No one should complain about him. He provides the heritage with comic relief on a yearly basis with his press interviews...

Surprised Ligonier hasn't had more success of late. They have had 3 D1 players in the last five years. you would think that would lead to more success. Especially when the majority of the teams you play may be lucky to have a few players that go on to play D3 or the occasional d2 player.
