Please don't take this as being whiney. I'm only asking the question, NOT referee-bashing. Just wanted to preface that because a lot of you already know I'm a Johnstown alum and supporter.
There is an extra point attempt by Forest Hills in the second half I believe that was partially blocked by Johnstown. You can see one of the officials making the signal with his hands. How then, is a roughing the kicker call enforced? Am I crazy in thinking any roughing/running into the kicker call was null and void if the opposing team blocked the ball? (Or is this one of those inconsistencies between the HS and college/pro game?) Or am I just way off base?

Said the same thing at the game

I didn't see the play, the rule says, "A defensive player shall neither run into the kicker nor holder, which is contact that displaces the kicker or holder without roughing; nor block, tackle or charge into the kicker of a scrimmage kick, or the place-kicker holder, other than when: there are four exceptions, the pertinent one is;
b. The defense touches the kick near the kicker and contact is unavoidable.
Even if the kick is blocked and in the judgment of the official the player that blocked the kick or another player caused avoidable contact it can be penalized as roughing.

Makes total sense then... the block came from the interior of the line and the kid that roughed the kicker was the edge rusher I believe. One would have had nothing to do with the other. If that is indeed the rule, then the stripes got it right! Thanks for the response paumpire!paumpire wrote:I didn't see the play, the rule says, "A defensive player shall neither run into the kicker nor holder, which is contact that displaces the kicker or holder without roughing; nor block, tackle or charge into the kicker of a scrimmage kick, or the place-kicker holder, other than when: there are four exceptions, the pertinent one is;
