Statewide 6 class breakdown
Re: Statewide 6 class breakdown
Clairton should have followed Aliquippa's lead. If you're good, you should play tougher competition. I think the Quips would've steamrolled through 1A most years, even with Clairton, had they just played where 'they belonged'.
Though, an example would be Cathedral Prep in D-10. Originally a 4A school, when they started flirting with 3A, they kept staying up as 4A (along with at least McDowell). Though having a long streak of no state championship runs. Finally they elect to move down to 3A, and instantly win a state championship and are regular 'fill-in-the-blank' favorites now.

I thought that part of the proposal was, once you had won, or participated in multiple finals that you were going to be advanced a class. You wouldn't see Clairton win 3 title and stay in single A, they would be moved to AA

We could just give out 500+ championship trophies, all hold hands and sing Kum-Bay-Ya.
It ain't over until it's over.
Re: Statewide 6 class breakdown
There are almost 600 football teams and over 700 basketball teams. Six classifications makes sense and long overdue. Get over it.Manfred wrote:We could just give out 500+ championship trophies, all hold hands and sing Kum-Bay-Ya.
Re: Statewide 6 class breakdown
Right? I think having 100 teams in each playing for a championship isn't crazy or AYSO soccer.

Re: Statewide 6 class breakdown
I see no reason why Clairton would be forced to play up. They are a true public A school. They have no obligation to other schools to play up because they win. Good for Aliquippa, but that should not be expected of everyone.
People arent moving their kid into Clairton for sports. The same can be said for Jeanette.
Private schools should not be allowed in A anymore. To easy to win and establish a feeder into the school based on sports. I have no problem with that, but I dont really enjoy watching BG/BM play a small heritage/west pac team in the playoffs or GCC play some of the small fish of the WPIAL. Now that there are 6 classes, leave the small fish in their own pond.

I agree. Why only six classifications? Let's at least double that. More champions means more self esteem for parents, coaches, has been alumni and finally the players themselves. Who doesn't want to say we are the AA1/2 champs or we are the AAAAAAAAAA champs?
Re: Statewide 6 class breakdown
I don't think 6 Championships is unreasonable. Like Birda said, with 600 teams for football and 700 for basketball. That's plenty of teams to distribute between the levels. It's not like they're having a championship between 10 teams.

I think the real issue is has-been alumni who think all change is bad m'kay.knowitall wrote:I agree. Why only six classifications? Let's at least double that. PA has far more smaller schools. Virginia classes are around 50 schools, Texas around 100.
Two more teams will win a championship...oh the humanity. Please.

that was the original plan, a move up clause, but many thought that was too much change at once...the idea isn't dead.TAHS92Alum wrote:I thought that part of the proposal was, once you had won, or participated in multiple finals that you were going to be advanced a class.
