IMO, he saw him coming out of the corner of his eye, and instinctively knew he could give him a shot and maybe get away with it. Happens ALL the time across the league. It's a contact sport. What differentiates last night's hit from others, is he raised up on contact, which made it a worse hit. I'm guessing 1 game + $$, outside chance he gets 2 games.
It ain't over until it's over.

The only reason this gets a suspension is because of the Orpik suspension. If you watch this again multiple times, you'll see Johansson skating in low then coming up. At that time, Letang comes right into his chest and just under the chin. Letang leaves his feet in the middle of the hit. Not before the hit. If you hit someone with your shoulder, it's going to be in an upward motion also. He catches Johansson's chin, but I think he was just trying to drill him in the chest.
1 game suspension if not just a fine. This is not worse than his hit on Stahlberg or Wilson's hit on Sheary

Actually bill its probably not about the suspension but more about the nhl's handling of concussions. If you follow the nhl, idk if you actually do since you just popped interest on threads a week or so ago, you know a lot of players ending up with concussions usually finish the game they recieved them in. NHLs concussion protocol is pretty bad but players, coaches and families havent complained

yes, I follow hockey..both nhl and PSU...been a hockey fan for a long time and I'm well aware of the concussion situation in hockey. This still plays of PR for the hit to help nudge the NHL to suspend. I'm willing to bet he shows up in the lineup tomorrow.

They will be implementing new protective gear for both the NHL and NFL starting next season.

It's very stylish

*should have*

It was unnecessary but it wasn't as reckless as the Orpik hit. One game is deserved. If this happens in game 35 of the season I'd say it's 50/50 shot it's a suspend-able hit.  This series has been played on the line and this is another feeble attempt by the NHL to calm things down a bit. The DoPS has to try and even things out due to lackluster officiating. Fun stuff.
