In 3A, would the top second place team that gets the first round home game automatically be the 4 seed? Or could they seed them 1-2 like in the past? Obviously the Beaver Valley conference has the top 4 teams overall. Should be interesting to see who misses out on the playoffs entirely.

Yeah hard to believe that one of 4 teams that have been ranked top 10 in state all year will miss out on district field.

That was thanks to the WPIAL still wanting four games at Heinz. The 3A schools wanted to opt out to have a 16-team tournament and play their game elsewhere. But, it didn't work out that way. After this year, there might be a really strong push by 3A in the next cycle to get out of Heinz if it allows more teams into the playoffs.

16 teams would be way too many when there are only what 23 3A teams total? The setup now is fine, it just so happens that all the best teams are in the same section. They would have to go away from geography and split up the top teams to make it more even. It makes those section games almost like playoff games in a way. Win 2 of 3 and you're in.

Yes, just like in previous years, they will be able to seed the teams as they please. Assuming that 2 teams in the Beaver Valley conference will get home games, they should be seeded 1 & 2. I hope to add the wild card & home field advantage standings by tonight.
