Westpac Week 10

Post by superstar25 »

Last week 5-0, 37-8 overall. Should be some good games this week. I have 7 Heritage conference teams winning so overall I feel they are the stronger conference this year. Games 2-7 appear to have some evenly matched teams.

Ligonier Valley (9-0) at Conemaugh Township (8-1) – Both teams should be the 1 seed for their respective district playoffs. This one is probably the easiest game of the week to pick. The Rams have proved to be the best team in either conference by far and a legit top 5 AA team in the state. I don’t think the Indians have the athletes to hang around in this one. LV 42-7.

Homer Center (8-1) at Berlin (8-1) – The Wildcats should be either the 2 or 3 seed in 6A. The Mountaineers will be either 2 or 3 in 5AA so this may be for home field next week vs. Ridge. This might be the best game of the week. Both teams are solid and like to run the ball behind good O-lines. I’ll take the home team by a field goal 24-21.

Blairsville (6-3) at Portage (7-2) – The Mustangs could move up to the 3 seed with a win and avoid BG in the semis. The Bobcats could land anywhere from 4 to maybe 8 depending on Friday night’s results, so this is an important game for them when it comes to playoff seedings. Blairsville has lost 3 in a row and I think Portage will make it 4. Mustangs 35-21.

Northern Cambria (6-3) at Meyersdale (7-2) – The Red Raiders can secure a home game next week vs. NBC with a win. The Colts could land anywhere from 5 to 8 in D6 A. Both teams come into this one hot with NC winning the past 4 and Meyersdale winning the past 6. I think the Colts might have a little more offense. NC survives the long bus ride and pulls out a close one 20-14.

West Shamokin (4-5) at Ferndale (4-5) – The Wolves can be anywhere from the 5 to 8 seed in D6 AA. They want to win this one to avoid the 8 seed and a date next week at Ligonier. Ferndale would like to win to solidify their chances of playing next week (although they could still be in with a loss). Good job Yellow Jackets on turning the program around this year and getting some wins, but WS runs away with this one 35-6.

United (4-5) at Shade (4-5) – The Panthers are locked into the 4 seed at CT next week. The Lions are fighting for playoff positioning and could use a win. This is another one that appears to have evenly matched teams and could go either way. Both teams have played tough all year but have come up a little short in the big games. I think Shade makes a few more plays at home and pulls out a close one 27-21.

Purchase Line (3-6) at Windber (3-6) – The Red Dragons should be in the playoffs with a win. The Ramblers are out of the playoffs and are playing for pride at this point. PL has put some points on the board and appear to be a team that might be a little better than their record indicates. I think they score often on the Ramblers defense. PL 35-20.

Penns Manor (3-6) at Conemaugh Valley (2-7) – The Comets need a win here to have a shot at making the playoffs. CV is out. PM gets a battle from the Blue Jays but wins 20-14.

Saltsburg (2-7) at Blacklick Valley (1-8) – Both teams are playing their last game of the season. I think its good these teams get a matchup like this to try and get another win and build for next year. The Trojans win 28-6.

Marion Center (0-9) at North Star (1-8) – The stingers get one in the win column to close out the year 14-8.

West Shamokin is very similar to Shade. They run a lot and have a good running QB. However, their QB got hurt last week. That could make that game more interesting
