PIAA- All 9th Graders to High School Football
Re: PIAA- All 9th Graders to High School Football
What if he is still too small as a tenth grader? At some point you have to let him play or pull the plug.

The ICC is not forcing any school to move 9th graders. If the school wants to keep 9th at Jr high, they can, but the ad will have to find games. Most schools decided to move all 9th graders to Sr high for the ease of scheduling. Guru should talk to his ad, tell him or her to quit being lazy and find some 9th grade games.

Yes, I was aware of that option. I guess it is how you look at it. If I join a conference and they say "Do it this way or go find games somewhere else" I would say that is forcing them to do it. Keeping the 9th graders down and playing teams from other conferences that have 9th grade teams is certainly an option but not a good one. For one thing you want to play your conference teams...thats why you join a conference. Secondly....the vast majority of area teams that you could play would be bigger schools (3A or higher). For a very small A school I guess this would give you games but you would never have a chance to be competitive....kind of a catch 22 really. (Our AD is not lazy..if we need to go this route he will do what he needs to do....I just don't think it is a good situation either way you look at it).Bitoffun wrote:The ICC is not forcing any school to move 9th graders. Guru, you and I are on the same page on this issue.
Hank, all I will say is that you and look at raising our children differently. That is okay. I do not coddle my sons and do not over protect them. But I will not allow a league to change a PIAA policy that could put my son in jeopardy without having a say in it. that is all I'm saying. If any tenth grader is still too small to compete then you have to make the choice of dropping the sport. But don't think a league's decison should take that ninth grade year away from them. That extra year can make a huge difference is some boys.
