Westpac Week 2
Meyersdale (0-1) @ Portage (1-0): Last week Meyersdale put up a good fight against Berlin and showcased that they have the ability to keep themselves in games. I think Meyersdale will continue to improve but the schedulers didn't give them any breaks out of the gate with the two perennial powerhouses of the conference. Portage showed last week that they are the real deal and that performance was without Wiggins their returning 1,000 yd rusher. I do not know if this week will show us the return of Wiggins, but when Portage gets him back they are going to be very good. Portage takes care of business again 42-7.
Conemaugh Township (0-1) @ North Star (1-0): Conemaugh Township confirmed they have a lot of pieces to replace from last season from the beating they took from Portage. They have some very good athletes but it's going to take time to get the younger guys the game experience they need. North Star started off on the right foot last week soundly beating Shade. They got great performances from Pollack (15/20 passing for 211yds) and Tremain 36 carries for 176 yds. If these two can maintain the balance they had last week North Star is going to be a dangerous team this year. Cougars win a close one 27-20.
Conemaugh Valley (0-1) @ Berlin (1-0): Conemaugh Valley just couldn't get it going last week against Windber. They have plenty of pieces returning from a season ago so maybe it's just going to take them some time to settle in with the new coach. Berlin pulled out the win last week and looked strong defensively. Hersch also made a solid debut at RB for them after playing on the line in the past. I look for them to continue to try to work on the passing game this week and try to get to a more balanced attack. Berlin rolls over the Blue Jays 35-7.
Shade (0-1) @ Ferndale (1-0): Shade struggled to get it going last week against North Star and it was evident they are a young team. Fyfe is an exceptional athlete, but he is going to need some help if they plan to have a winning season. Ferndale picked up right where they left off last year and with as many yards as Shade gave up through the air last week I look for Ferndale to go deep early and often. Ferndale wins again 35-14.
Blacklick (0-1) @ Windber ( 1-0): Blacklick had a solid defensive performance last week against a high powered Ferndale offense. They still came up short but with two interceptions and holding Ferndale to 186 yds rushing they have something to build off of. Windber started off the season strong last week with a dominate performance over Conemaugh Valley. They will look to build momentum these first few weeks of the season as the schedule gets tougher ahead. Windber wins 35-7.
Odd note from last week away teams were 5-0 and I project this week the home teams will go 5-0.

Re: Westpac Week 2
Last year the Meyersdale/Portage game was a defensive tussle in a pourdown. I would expect the same kind of matchup. The other game that is interesting is the Conemaugh Township/North Star game. Not sure of CT passing defense..think Portage only threw one ball more than 10 yards, and a handful of short passes last week. The Meyers boy will be hungry for some yardage this week..if NS can stop him I think they should win.
