Mountain League Week 5

Post by DragonsDoExist »

5-0 last week (13-1 season)

Philipsburg-Osceola (1-4) @ Penns Valley (1-4)...Both teams are looking for their 1st conference win and looking to stay out of the basement. This is a tough one to gauge as neither team has been very competitive thus far with their lone wins coming against West Branch (1-4) and Punxsy (1-4). The Rams have some decent size up front and the Ripka kid is a decent player. I'll go with the home team. Penns Valley 26 P-O 21.

Bald Eagle Area (3-2) @ Tyrone (1-4)...After starting the season 3-0 the Eagles of BEA have lost 2 straight and are looking to avoid a downward spiral. Tyrone is also looking to right the ship in what has been a disappointing season thus far. This game could be huge down the stretch as teams battle for those last 2 spots in the AAA playoff field. BEA really needs this game as their 2nd half schedule is much tougher than the early portion. BEA has a young team and is heading in the right direction but may be a year away from any significant success. Tyrone on the other hand is absolute mystery at this point. I predicted a loss to Bellefonte last week but did not think it would be by 5 TDs! Until I see something different I just can't pick Tyrone. Bald Eagle Area 34 Tyrone 28.

Clearfield (3-2) @ Bellefonte (4-1)...Based on the current AAAA standings this could be a semifinal preview. Bellefonte is coming in off a 35 point win vs Tyrone. Offensively the Red Raiders are clicking on all cylinders averaging 39 ppg in their last four. After back to back losses to Central & Huntingdon the Bison got back in the win column last week with a big 39 point win at Central Mountain. Is Bellefonte legit? A win over the perennial league powerhouse would be a huge feather in the cap for the Red Raiders. I think the scoreboard gets a workout in this one. I keep leaning toward taking Bellefonte but I'm going against my gut. Clearfield 42 Bellefonte 34.

Juniata (4-1) @ Huntingdon (5-0)...D6 gets their annual 1 week look at Juniata prior to the playoffs. Last year the Indians beat Huntingdon 21-7 and Bedford 45-6 before falling to Central 49-0 in the D6 final. Coming off back to back D6 final appearance the Indians meet up with the lone D6 team on their regular season schedule this week. Juniata is coming in off a 70-0 win over Millersburg. That Millersburg team however is 0-5 and has given up 40+ in every game they've played thus far. Huntingdon continues to ride the legs of stud RB Ian Border as he continues to shatter Huntingdon rushing records on their way to a 5-0 start. Juniata's lone loss was 35-14 at the hands of Williams Valley, currently the 3rd ranked single A team in the state. This could also be a AAA semifinal preview. Based off what I've seen from Juniata the last 2 years and what I know about the Bearcats I think Huntingdon takes this one fairly easily. Huntingdon 35 Juniata 21.

Chestnut Ridge (4-1) @ Central (4-1)...The Lions come in with 1 lone loss to a currently undefeated Musselman, WV team that is ranked in the top 10 in their state. Ridge is a senior laden squad led by dual threat QB Logan Hauck (532 passing/4 TDs/4 INTs, 511 rushing/9 TDs) and RB Noah Dillow (326/5 TDs). The Dragons are led on the ground by RB Trystan Detwiler (638/9.4 ypc/7 TDs) and a fast, opportunistic defense that returned 3 INTs for TDs last week at BEA. The question mark remains will junior QB Noah Muthler be available after missing the last 2 weeks with an injury. If Muthler is not available the Dragons are fortunate to have a 2nd QB in Preston Karstetter who was under center in the state semifinals just a year ago. The Dragons have beaten the Lions the last 2 years by a combined score of 77-28 but many believe this is CR's year for payback. Should be a good one. Central 28 Chestnut Ridge 21.
You play to win the game!!!
