I think the bigger issue is schools' schedules being full of teams that aren't even their own size. If you are AAA, they should take the teams with the best record against other AAA teams to go to a AAA playoff bracket. AA vs AA to go to a AA playoff. A vs A to a A Playoff. Non-Public vs. Non-public to go to a Non-Public Playoff.
Currently, on one hand you get teams that lose to bigger schools and then get a low seed or don't get in at all. On the other, you have schools that half their schedule is smaller schools who they beat easily and get the high seed like the ICC and Heritage.

I'm not trying to restart the "how terrible and stupid the current set up is" debate again, just saying that it doesn't make a lot of sense to me and never has across years of watching PIAA football.

Typically yes this would be a problem. But sometimes a 3 win team in one conference may be a 5 win team in another and vice versa. As long as the best X amount of teams are in, I'm ok with a 3 win team that could make some noise.
Five win teams do not belong in the playoffs either.
So if an A team loses to 5 AAA/AAAA teams but destroys the other 5 A/AA schools they play on their schedule, they shouldn't make playoffs? Make sense..........

Nope.  How many teams does this affect anyhow?

The WPIAL does do this correctly and forces same size schools into sections with those sections changing as enrollment fluctuates.   Avoids the whole silly point system for the most part.   In D6 it does pay to be a big fish in a small pond as larger schools gain an advantage from the point system.   But, it is best thing they have.

Knowitall, Richland comes to mind this year. They would be 7 - 3 or 8 - 2 in a smaller conference. Cambria Heights, Central Cambria in the same position. Just off the top of my head, I am sure there are others.

Richland losing to Somerset doesn’t change my mind one bit. The playoffs should be for the best of the best.

Simple, take the Somerset (AAAA), Johnstown (AAAA), and Forest Hills (AAA - presumed defeat) and place AA teams in there and they could go from 4 - 6 to 7 - 3. Since the playoffs are watered down with 6 classes now anyhow, some of the 5 win AA teams playing in larger conferences are worthy. I think that is the point

I think the best thing is if they went to what the WPIAL does then. The problem people have with it is that it causes a slightly longer commute to some games I think.

I agree. Stinks that Huntingdon was one of the lone Mountain League teams they didn't play. Would've been a fun one to watch.
