First off if I had to guess why Marshall didn't play as much it was because he wasn't playing like he can on defense. He looked a little out of it last night, but when he wants to he can put on some good pressure on the ball as you already know. I agree Koontz did a good job. Now for the paper, that was at the very beginning of the year before any games started. Things change when guys get in games compared to how they are in practice. A couple of guys this year who were playing some varsity kept looking worse as the year went on and they play hardly at all. Another kid who was playing some quit. Right when he was starting to play more and more he left for a week and didn't play as much after that. So for a while there were about 8 guys who played but as the year goes on things change. I agree it would be better if guys could get breaks, but to blame losing games on that reason i don't agree with. We lose our games in the third quarter, not the fourth.

I think it has to do with not enough condition in practice and are not ready to go a full game if there are lapses during the 2nd half of the game. The players need to learn to finish because that is the most important part of the game at the end when the score counts. I think it has a lot to do with mental toughness as well. If you have depth is the only way you can sit good players or starters out of the game for a few seconds.

40 minutes per game, 3 games per week can take a toll on any player, I don't care how old you are. Bedford's shooting gets worse as the game goes on because of fatigue, the legs start to go. It's a fact.

I definitely agree the reason some teams can sub is because they have interchangable players that sit on the bench...and I also believe Bedford has 2-3 guys on the bench that are COMPLETELY capable of relieving some of the starters.

IMO they are interchangable with the starters...with the exception of Troy I don't see much difference in some of the other starters compared to 2-3 guys that don't start.

I'm not outright blaming the losses on fatigue and I also believe our losses can be contributed to mental toughness. Mental toughness is something some players have naturally "for the love of the game" and other players lack it to a certain extent. The beauty of the game is not everyone has to have the natural ability to still be strong in the 4th quarter. Sometimes a break here and there will allow a player's mind to, so-to-speak reboot and allow him to think more clearly. A team like Bedford with obvious mental toughness problems might be able to gain an advantage by having rested guys in the game...to make up for a lack of focus down the home stretch.

But then again what do I know, I'm just a spectator with no room to talk....I played on the football team that lost every second half all year...

This is an interesting topic. I appreciate all the different viewpoints. I have a feeling that if Troy Harris indicated we wanted a blow, he'd readily get it.

If he asked for a break would that be considered mentally weak?

I think Next year Troy Harris will be the best player around if he isnt today, because he can only get better, and as for the other members of the bisons Shane fox has developed into a mature basketball player and will also be better next year, I think they will not only make the playoffs next year but go pretty decently far in it.. Many other teams are losing big men in the paint as well!!!!

I will never, ever , ever be able to figure out why some people don't see more time for that team. You have Marshall who doesn't see a whole lot of time. You have the Stifflers who should see more. Big Soty should play more and Little Soty will be a player if he is ever given the chance to develop with varsity minutes. A these players are just as solid as some of the starters. I am not talking about playing the whole game, just a few quality minutes. But then again, what do I know.

So, excusing some other opinions, it seems like most of us agree it's mental toughness that plays a determining factor in second half let downs. If this is a big part of it, what do you do? Personally, I would want someone on the team to take over the leadership roles and not let it happen. I'm sure substitutions would help throughout the game, but apparently the coaches don't see it that way. If you guys can get ahead in the first half, then that means you're good enough to beat them in the second. Opinions...??

My best circumstance is away at cambria heights. Deek harris was been shadowing vescovi the whole game and marshall has been playing full court pressure on the point guard for much of the whole game. It doesnt matter how tough they are, they will eventually be worn down, and it showed on the defensive end. Cambria heights went on a big offensive run late in the game to give them the lead. With the worn out defense and no subs, there was no way bedford could put an effective full court defensive press to close the gap in the ending minutes.
