Best defense of the 2000's
Best defense of the 2000's
Who had set the standard as the defense to be compared to in the last 20 years? And can anyone think of a great defense that carried a team with an average offense?

I'd say the 04 Tyrone defense. Don't have the stats for the year but held then record setting Seton Lasalle offense to 7 points. Defensive player of the year Terry Tate anchored that d-line.

2010 Bishop Carroll Chumrik lead the state in sacks. Makin and Kephart all state.

Couldn’t agree more on the 04 Eagles. Played against them for D6 and Terry was a nightmare. Completely unblockable. Only other time I’ve seen a dlineman takeover a game like that was when Suh played for Nebraska in the Big12 Championship game against Texas. Absolute game wrecker.
I would also say the 03 BC squad. Tremendous amount of talent, and punishingly physical brand of defense.

Some of my best friends played on that team. They said McCort that year was harder than LaSalle. I do remember how big you guys were on the line. I actually think you guys were bigger than Tyrone. Very good team you had.Crimsoncrush67 wrote: October 28th, 2021, 9:18 pm Couldn’t agree more on the 04 Eagles. Played against them for D6 and Terry was a nightmare. Completely unblockable. Some of the best defensive players in the area have been 140-150lb. demons. Size ain't everything.

Totally agree Manfred.
Bedford was known to always be a little undersized and have some great defenses as well.
One of this things I remember seeing a lot in our area was 0/1 techs being about 160 and just constantly in the backfield.
