Forbes
I'm not sure...McConnellsburg has a good team and Forbes has a good team too.. It will be a good game if Forbes plays their best...But hopefully Forbes will take the win..They deserve it..they improved ALOT!!

Cut and Paste job from The Public Opinion, Chambersburg Newspaper dated 2-18-04:
Spartans eliminate Cardinals
McConnellsburg overcomes 2nd-quarter shutout to advance
By BRIAN HALL

McConnellsburg 50 Forbes Road 37
Of note: Forbes Road outscored McConnells-burg 14-0 in the second quarter to build a 9-point halftime lead, but the Spartans held the Cardinals to 14 second-half points ... Scott Earley canned 3 huge 3-pointers and scored 16 points for the Spartans ... Chris Barnett led the Cardinals with 11.
Records: McConnells-burg (18-7) plays Shanks-ville in a District 5-A semi-final Thursday ... Forbes Road finished 12-13.
McCONNELLSBURG -- When the buzzer for halftime sounded, Forbes Road charged off the floor a confident bunch that had handled everything the McConnellsburg Spartans threw in its direction. However, McConnellsburg returned with iron-clad resolve to outscore the Cardinals 36-14 in the second half en route to a 50-37 victory in a District 5 Class A boys basketball quarterfinal matchup Tuesday night at a packed MHS gym.
Even though the Spartans will move on to face Shanksville (19-7) in Thursday's semifinal (site to be determined), the Cardinals were winners, too. Forbes Road's senior class battled back from a 2-22 season last year to finish 12-13. "I am very proud of all of my seniors," Cardinal coach Randy Meck said. "They wanted to be known as the team that turned Forbes Road basketball around and they did a good job. I wish them all well."
The No. 2-seeded Spartans looked sharp in the first quarter, working against the Cardinals' 1-3-1 zone to build a 14-9 lead. But the Cardinals quieted the Spartan crowd in the second quarter by outscoring the hosts 14-0. "We played a good first quarter," Spartan coach Denny Pollock said. "They went to a 2-3 zone in the second and we didn't run our game plan offensively. We couldn't buy a bucket."
Chris Barnett fired up Forbes Road with nine of his 11 points in the quarter, including seven straight in one stretch. Brandon Gelvin dropped in another five points. The Cardinal defense held the Spartans to few good looks and took away the backside layup, which had been effective early.
The Cardinals charged into the locker room ahead 23-14 and the stage appeared set for an upset. "We really stepped it up defensively," Meck said. "We didn't give up any easy baskets. But I was disappointed in how we came out in the third. The players know how important the first three minutes of the third quarter are. We needed to put the lead up to 15. Instead, we gave up about seven points."
Pollock's halftime speech centered on tough defense and precise offense. McConnellsburg responded. Senior guard Scott Earley took a position switch in stride and canned a 3-pointer a minute into the second half. Matt Spriggs (10 points) put the finishing touches on a 10-0 run with 3:58 remaining in the third with another trey as the Spartans took a 24-23 lead. "Scott had some open looks in the first half, he just didn't shoot," Pollock said. "I told him at halftime, if we were gonna go down, we're gonna go down shooting. I moved him out to the wing. Matt Spriggs has a little more height at point guard and he can penetrate and pass. He's a good assist man."
Earley didn't disappoint. He knocked down a trey to end the third quarter, which gave the Spartans a 31-28 cushion. He answered Forbes Road's early fourth-quarter rally with another 3-pointer with 6:15 left and the Spartans led 37-32. McConnellsburg outscored Forbes Road 13-5 the rest of the way. "I got more confident in my looks," Earley said. "I'm grateful to my teammates for getting me the ball and also getting me open." Earley, who finished with 16 points, wasn't sold on the Cardinals going away quietly. He knows the rivalry all too well.
"Even though they were down nine, you don't ever give up on a Forbes Road team," Earley said. "It's a county rivalry. They're a tough team." Spriggs viewed Tuesday's result as a building block for future playoff games. "We know we can come back," Spriggs said, "especially against a good team."
NOTES: The Cardinals' graduating seniors are Cory Hall, Matt Snyder, Chris Barnett and Tim Grissinger ... Dave Thomas posted a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) for the Spartans.

Congrats to two good Fulton County teams...I ventured out of my normal territory to take in this game and enjoyed it.
I do have to say, I made the comment that everyone in Fulton County, from the fans to the coaches to the players, must have taken a "nice pill" hours before the contest.
If perhaps, Tussey and Everett, or NB and someone, were meeting for a round of playoffs, or league title on the line, I would guess there would have been some more out of control emotions in the building.
The players played ball and no "extra" stuff was involved.

I AGREE SNEAKERS. I WAS AT THE GAME ALSO. I THINK FULTON COUNTY DISPLAYED VERY GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP FROM EVERYBODY. IT WAS A JOY TO SEE THE WAY THE CARDINALS AND COACH MECK RUSHED OFF THE FLOOR AT HALFTIME. THAT IS WHAT HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS SHOULD BE ABOUT. NOT ALL THE EXTRA STUFF FROM THE BLEACHERS!!
