LHAC / heritage vs. MAC II/MAC III
LHAC / heritage vs. MAC II/MAC III
I remember reading the mirror basketball predictions at the beginning of this year the LHAC/heritage was down and that D6 AA and D6A championships would probably be from the newly formed MAC II and MAC III. SC is an obvious favorite in MAC I. MAC II has some great teams, i.e PV, MU, WB, MV, BG just to name a few. MAC III is a little weaker but JV and WBG come to mind. JV won the MAC III against the likes of PV, MU WB and MV, all of which sport very good team records. I'm reading these posts and it is obvious the LHAC/Heritage confs. get more press in the message center the the MAC. Should be a real interesting D6 tournament in AAA, AA and A
BTW go JV!

I'm not so sure the lhac is down this year at all. If anything, I think some of the AA teams on this side of the mountain are over rated.
Shulman from Penns Valley is a real nice player and Lewis (6'7" transfer from State College) is effective but their lack of outside shooters is going to hurt them. Some very mediocre teams have played them tough simply by going zone.
West Branch has some nice shooters but lack a true point guard.
Moshannon Valley has one very good player (Holencik) and pretty much four other players trying to get him the ball.
Mt. Union seems to be seeded about right at 6th. They're one team that could make some noise if they can put it together in a big game. They're physical with a couple of real good shooters, Price in particular. Helton does a good job at the point for them. For whatever reason, the Trojans don't always come to play but I still think they could be a dangerous team.
Bishop Guilfoyle, as usual, is a real wild card. I haven't seen them this year but their coaching and schedule keeps them in the hunt every year, at least it did in single A. I also understand they'll have an injured starter back for the playoffs. They open with West Branch--might get a better read on them after I see the score of that game.

Mountain Athletic Conference---divided into three sections.CVHSsFynest wrote:MacI, II,III?? what is all this, unfamiliar
MAC I=the four AAAA teams (State College, Altoona, Hollidaysburg, Central Mountain)
MAC II=the former Mountain League with the addition of Bishop Guilfoyle. Lewistown is the MAC II champ this year.
MAC III=the former Juniata Valley league. Exact same teams as previous years with JV the champ this year.

The Mountain League has had several changes in the past ten years.
Mt. Union was once a member until they opted for the JVL. Same with Penns Valley. Central was also until they left for the Lhac. And now Bishop Guilfoyle joined a year or two ago.
The MAC III is the Juniata Valley league and is still referred to as such.

Yep--so far, so good for the Heritage--and their big guns haven't played yet. I expected Purchase Line and Homer-Center to win but I was mildly surprised that MC beat Mount Union.
I've seen MU play very well in a couple of games this year but I also saw where they didn't play up to their potential at times. I thought they had the ability to do better in the play-offs.

Here is the way it stands as we enter the semifinal round:
Boys Class A has two Heritage teams, one WestPac team and one LHAC team.
Girls Class A has two Heritage teams, one WestPac team and one LHAC team.
Boys Class AA has two Heritage teams, one MACIII team and one LHAC team.
Girls Class AA has one MAC team and 3 LHAC teams.
Boys AAA has three LHAC teams and one MAC team.
Girls AAA advanced their only LHAC entry to the semis.
The Heritage and LHAC are very well represented. Those leagues were evidently stronger than most thought they were.
