Shippensburg Baseball and Softball
I'm fortunate to have some good friends that play baseball and softball here at SHIP so I thought I'd take the time to boast a little on how the teams are doing. Ladies first...the softball team opened up their season playing a double header at Pfeiffer University in North Carolina. The Lady Raiders swept the double header winning the first game 5-0 and the second 7-1. In the first game, All-American Kelley Tiesi pitched a three-hit shutout to earn the victory and Dana Burgess gave up only 4 hits and 1 run to notch the second win of the season.
This past weekend, the team traveled to Longwood, VA to compete in the Longwood University Softball Tournament. They lost their opening game Friday afternoon to Longwood 5-2. On Saturday, SHIP shutout West Virgina Wesleyan 2-0 and Virginia State 4-0 to earn the #2 seed heading into Sunday's championship round. Tiesi again pitched the complete game shutout against Wesleyan recording 12 K's. Shippensburg's two runs came from a two-run homerun hit by Ann Corr in the bottom of the first. On Sunday, SHIP defeated Lock Haven to advance to the championship where they defeated Longwood 2-1 to claim the title. SHIP softball's record is currently 6-1.
The baseball team also has been on it's own winning streak after losing it's opener 7-4 at the hands of Mt. Olive. Shippensburg began its winning ways sweeping a double header against Wingate University, NC, winning the first game 10-8 and the second 23-3. The team collected an impressive 38 hits in the two games. In the first game, Evan Englebrook got the win while Frank Dagostino got the save. In the second game, Northern Bedford product Randy Dicken held wingate scoreless through the first 4 frames to claim the victory and Nathan Jones pitched the final 3.
The next day, SHIP again played Wingate and claimed both games winning 3-0 and 3-1. Lee McClintock got the win in game one while freshmen Ross Buckwalter got his first win of his college career in the second game.
The baseball team increased its record to 6-1 this past weekend by defeating Mars Hill in double-header action 18-7 and 13-2. Jared Krebs two run home run in the first thing got things going for the Red Raiders in the first game while Evan Englebrook recorded the win. In game two, Randy Dicken pitched a great game claiming his second victory while increasing the Raider's record.

I heard a small rumor that maybe Rick Matsko from CT was helping Pettie coach there. Is this true. Rick was a roomate of mine for 2 1/2 years at Ship. Chateau and the pond house.

I'm not sure I'm able to confirm that rumor. The assistant coaches that are listed are Doug Senott, Scott Biesecker, and Mike Brzczinksi. The next time I run into Dicken I'll ask him and see if Matsko is helping out.

Senott and Biesecker were there then. Senott is a good guy. I really can't believe that Bryzinski is a coach if it is the same guy I am thinking of.
