what does freeport have, im reading that NS is 12 pt underdogs, and people are saying they have a shot but arent really expecting the upset ... but whats freeport all about..
i heard they have a 6'6 kid who's not all that great
a 6'2ish kid who can leap out of the gym
another 6'2ish kid whos a good ball player
but thats all i really heard ... what are the pluses and weak spots of this team? and how do they match up against ns?
papers say 12.5 points in freeports favor .. what's your predictions?

Freeport is a very good AA boys' basketball team. They led Aliquippa by 6 with :50 remaining in their quarterfinal game and had them beaten before careless turnovers and Darelle Revis did them in and they lost at the buzzer 64-62.
Freeport's players:
Combo guard Dave Bauman is a good player. He earned a D1 scholarship to AlbanyU and committed just prior to the season in November. He's 6-2 and thin as a rail (maybe 165 lbs.), but can handle it and shoot it very well from the outside. He's not a great defender, but he can get away with that at the AA level. I really do not see this kid as a D1 player, but apparently someone does. He can definitely nail it if he's left open.
6-2 swingman Brent Ferko is a very athletic, jumping jack. I have seen him dunk in games, he plays like he's 6-7. His ball skills aren't that great, nor is his outside shot, but he can get to the hoop at will in AA. I heard he's getting a lot of D3 interest. He lit up Quippa for 25 pts and 12 rebounds. He will be a handful for NS to contain. I doubt if NS has faced a more athletic player all season.
They have an inside player who does a lot of the dirty work. He's maybe 6-3 and his name is Chelecky. Not much of an offensive threat, but his size can hurt.
Fport has a pretty good point guard. I forget his name...Pretty short, but he can hit the 3 if he's left open. I think he scored like 11 against Quippa.
Fport has no real bench to speak of...They play 7 guys and that's about it.
In sum, Freeport is a very athletic team. They will be the best team (by far) that North Star has faced this season. North Star will absolutely have their hands full. For NS to win, Shubik will have to go off for 40 or the Distrcit 5/6 officials will have to call their usualy ticky-tack stuff on Ferko and/or Bauman and get them out of the game. If not, I feel that NS will lose by double digits.

I have nothing to offer about the players for this game . . . I will, however, share a story about Freeport's Coach Garry Davies.
Years ago, when Les Shoop was the head coach for Punxsutawney, the real brains of the team was the Assistant Coach, Garry "GAS" Davies. They had played together at IUP in the early 70's, and came to Punxsutawney together as young teachers. Coach Davies was, in my opinion, the better teacher of the game, as well as the better communicator with young men.
Fast Forward to the 21st century, Gas is and has been the Head Coach at Freeport for a number of years. A friend of mine is attending one of the North Star games at UPJ and notices a gentleman scouting North Star. He introduces himself, asks who the individual is scouting, and he and Coach Davies have a cordial conversation about basketball, including a spirited discussion of D-5 basketball. After 30 plus years of coaching, Coach Davies is still out there pounding the pavement, doing his own scouting, and paying attention to hoops in all of Western Pennsylvania!!
Is there anything for the North Star fans here? Simply, I wish you the best of luck against Freeport. I KNOW they will come prepared . . .
