Quips vs Rox and the Palumbo Center Tripleheader
Game 1 was Quad A. Penn Hills beat Connellsville by 1 but you won't believe how it ended!!
Connellsville gets the ball down 1 with :10 left. P.Hills doubleteams Munch Hairston (leading scorer in Western Pa this year) and won't let him get the ball. so their geeky looking white small forward that can barely dribble brings it up untouched, pulls up at the three point line and launches a "3" with :02 left!!! IT GOES IN!!!!!! But wait....there's a whistle....Connellsville's coach signalled for a timeout apparently just before the shot and even though the whistle went off as the ball went thru the net, the timeout was asked for first....erase the game winning shot and back to a P.Hills 1 pt. lead. They inbound to Hairston with :02 left and he gets a shot off but misses. They lose because of a TIMEOUT!!! Incredible finish!! Penn Hills is good enough for us to be seeing them in Hershey. They have a 6'8 guy, Akia McClain who is going to Boston College on a full scholarship. They beat State College in the regular season. Speaking of which, things are looking much better for the West. Chester went down in round 1. Round 2 claimed Reading and Cheltenham so the East is being weakened severely.
Game 2 was Jeannette and Beaver Falls. Jeannette was undermanned but hustled and actually led by 3 after 3 Qtrs. Big upset brewing...but...B.Falls wore them down and outscored them 24-5 in the fourth to pull away. Impressed with Jeannette who though undermanned played "balls out" as long as they could and were on the verge of a big upset. More on Beaver Falls after game 3 report.
Game 3--The most talked about game in the state last night...Sto-Rox and Aliquippa. Sto has everyone back from last year's fight...errr....championship game in Hershey! Great back and forth game. Geiger (guy that started the fight by punching the Trinity player on the bench last year) drains a three in last 30 seconds for 3 pt. Rox lead. Quips get a "3" by Reavis (Best player in W.Pa. this year--going to Pitt for Football) with about 8 sec. left but he misses. Outstanding AA game. Back and forth with Reavis and the Quips athleticism battling Rox's size and basketball savvy/experience. This was the biggest hurdle for Sto-Rox to get a return match with Trinity. Although, Beaver Falls will be tough too, they have an awesome Sophomore, Lance Jeter. B.Falls beat Sto-Rox by 4 in their District playoffs. BF plays full court pressure defense and they are better defensively than Aliquippa...they also are very deep on the bench, which Rox isn't, but might have big problems matching up inside with SR. BF can derail Rox but it appears DiMichael, Hugar, Geiger are ON A MISSION
Some comments about Sto-Rox...They are a bunch of thugs......DiMicheal, (PSU football signee) ran by the Aliquippa fans after hitting a crucial "3" and give them the finger , Hugar (who got kicked out last year in the second melee for kicking a guy) was pulling his same stuff, and there were several loose balls like in the state final last year where Geiger, DiMichael, etc. would be throwing wild elbows and rabbit punches in the pile ups. After all of last years occurrences, They are still THUGS. That being said, it will still be exciting too see a Rox-Trinity rematch after last years memorable game/fight.

In response about AAAA, you are probally right in regards of the WEst having a chance. The 4 remaining teams in the East are pretty much unknowns when it comes to State Championship ball. I think the dark horse may be Red Lion, from what I hear they are playing pretty good ball right now. Trinity is very good saw them play on Saturday also, the are very big, and not as athletic as last year but with Walker they have a true big time player
