I heard the rumors of changing the weight classes and 103 up to 108 is one of them. Well, coaches I have a big problem with that. See, my son wrestled 103 this year and his average weight was 94 lbs. My son heard of the rumor too and has alreay made the comment that if this happens, he is going to take steroids to get bigger. He says he knows where they are and how to get them. Coaches, do we want this for our sons who have trouble gaining weight. I know I don't. Wrestling is supposed to be for all athletes and now it is going to be selective. I know of our wrestlers in our area that falls into my son's same problem. Steriods is going to be their answer to gaining weight. Don't let this happen. Keep the lighter weight. My son will soon be 16 and I can't be with him 24 hours a day. He goes to the gym to lift to help but results are slow. He loves wrestling and if the weight changes he will do whatever it takes to compete. Coaches, if it comes to a vote. For our smaller athletes, please vote against the change.
if they want to eliminate one or two weights, then combine 130 and 135, 140 and 145. all of the other weights are separated by more than 5 pounds. but as for the crowding in tyrone on district weekend, its always going to be full. it always has been, always will be. i dont know about the section tournament, it wasnt in place in my years, but it would be nice to weed out some of the lesser opponents, eliminating so many wrestleback rounds.

Not gonna happen, the proposal starts with 108 then every weightclass up to 145 changes a little, keeping 145 through hwt the same.I believe it's something like 108,115,123,131,139,145,152,160,171,189,215,HWT.
That's the proposal. There will also be a proposal for the re-introduction of sectionals.

I agree - Slamtheman - My son weighed 93lbs in 9th grade and wrestled 103. He did well, but was man-handled many times by the bigger guys. This year as a sophomore he was still only 100lbs. Hopefully by next year, as a Junior he will have to cut alittle to make 103. If they raise it to 108 he will probable fall short again. Giving up 10lbs is bad, but 15 would have been crazy.

If someone has a kid that feels he can't "bulk" up unless he pops steroids, here's some advice- DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! You know you have to take physicals and I assume urine samples somewhere along the line, and YOU WILL BE CAUGHT, DISQUALIFIED, SUSPENDED FROM YOUR SPORT, and SHAMED UNMERCIFULLY in the eyes of your families, friends, coaches, competitors, and anyone who might look up to you as an example of sport hero worship. If you need to gain 5-10 pounds, hit the weights, drink lots of milkshakes, whatever that is LEGAL! DON'T BE STUPID!

To the White Shadow, I hate to tell you this, but there are no urine tests in high school. This is an area that has no limits yet. But in my sons case, he has trouble growing. Between grades 6 and 10, he has gained only 15 pounds and grown only 3 inches. That's in a 5 year period. So you're trying to tell my son that it's easy to bulk up. Come on now. What do think he's going to turn to for help. It's not to be a hero. It's just simply to be able to compete competitively. And not be out weighted by 10 or 15 pounds. If anything needs changed in the weights, it's the middle weights. They are only 5 lbs. apart. 103 to 112 is a 9 lb. difference. Let's not discriminate against the smaller wrestlers. Steroids are going to be their answer. And I don't want this to happen to my son. Let's not let Pennsylvania be a follower of other states. PA. is good enough to be able to do their own thing. Stand up for the smaller wrestlers. There are plenty around that fall into this category. Wrestling is supposed to be for all sizes. Football for the bigger built kids and basketball for the tall kids. Let's keep wrestling for ALL kids.
