We had the option to wrestle in gym class when I was in hs and our phys ed teacher had guys like myself explain things. The only problem was that you had several sports to choose from and not many people chose wrestling. Believe it or not, girls were actually more interested in wrestling than guys.
As far as the whole violence thing goes: you would think that those who thought it promoted violence or whose parents believed so, could just opt out of participating. However, that doesn't seem to work. That seemed like the obvious choice when there were complaints about dodge ball, but rather than those who complained choosing another sport, we were forced to drop dodge ball as a phys ed activity.

WHERE DID THE WORD VIOLENCE COME FROM IN WRESTLING ? i CAN HONESTLY SAY WRESTLING IN HIGH SCHOOL PREPARED ME MORE FOR THE CHALLANGES THAT HAS COME IN LIFE THAN ALOT OF THE CLASSES I TOOK.
WRESTLING IS A SPORT AND IT'S A GOOD SPORT! DON'T PUT THOSE KINDA WORDS IN THE SAME SENTENCE TOGETHER
