state titles are won now in the off season
THIS isn't for everyone only a few......
To every wreslter that came up short this year or didn't meet his goals heres a little reminder that Regional and State titles are won in the off season. If strength is your problem than you should be hitting the weights right now hard. If stamina then you should be on a sprinting and running program from now till season starts. Just going to a summer camp wont do it. ASK any state champ and they will tell you that wrestling isn't a seasonal sport for them its a comlplete year round focus and desire in their lives. SOME OF YOU reading this really bombed your season this year and if you dont start now than your gonna be in the same boat as you were last year. DONT wait till summer or fall, start now (if its worth it) if not, then this post wasn't for you anywayz.

ill agree 120%...just to top ya d6champ. when i competed, i had all the ability and potential in the world, which bought me some pretty admirable accolades. the problem was that i only trained my rear off 5 months out of 12. i wish i had it to do all over again. if would have realized it was that easy to do what i did, then i would have worked alot harder. take this subject to heart wrestlers....cause it will be over sooner than you think, then you will have the rest of your life to loaf around and think about it.

summer wrestlers make winter champions
Wrestlers" The best kind of people in the world. The cockiest, dirtiest, most irresponisble group of athletes in the universe. Will get with any broad and come back and tell all his buddies about it. Will booze at least 2 times a week and pretend they are still dedicated. Not afraid to live the dream untill they are 35 then realize they never made it anywhere. Ladies Love us. Guys want to be us. We are the soul of the universe.
I teach coach at a small school.....I attended a larger school....the best athletes in both situations usually compete in at least two, if not three, sports....it is especially important in a small school that the best athletes participate, not specialize....I realize the commitment that is needed....but I would hate to see it come, with most athletes, at the expense of the school's overall athletic program....it can be done and it is done everyyear all over the state....in a few years, most of these athletes aren't going to be able to enjoy these experiences again...I would hate to limit them, as a coach, because of my greed...ultimately, the athlete must make the decision....but if they want to play multiple sports, let them play and enjoy their youth....

Like I said in my first post. This isn't for everybody but then again not just everybody can be a state champ. ONLY very gifted atheletes can afford to not think about wrestling until fall. If you took a poll I would bet that most if not all state champs in wrestling have been people that eat, sleep and breathe the sport all year round. ( I've been wrong many times ) but this is one thing I am fairly sure of. I saw the tears of some of the guys that came off the mat and I know this is tough love.......BUT here goes.
YOU DIDN"T give it your all if you did not put the time into working your butt off during the off season. SURE you may have gave it your all on that night for that match. BUT all is all and all is alls every going to be you can't cut all in half and still have all. Therefore if your gonna say " I gave it my all" you better be including the months of the off season or your lying to yourself. SORRY GUYS someone has to say it.

Look, what you said isn't necessarily true.I totally believe that playing other sports makes an athlete tougher at all of them.If a football player is batting in the bottom of the 7th with the game on the line,or trying to get that escape in an OT rideout,he's dealling with a pressure situation, only be a better athlete for it.You can't train for how you will react in those situations. You can only keep putting yourself in those situations, learning and growing from them. You don't get that at a summer camp.
To go a little further,I share the same opinion as a buddy of mine who did several sports when he was in high school,if he wanted to go fishing and relax instead of AAU's that's what he did.He ended up pretty good.He won states in '85.
Go to Hershey next year and of the 16 kids at each weight,I'll show you a dozen or so that killed themselves in the offseason, sacrificing 1/2 their youth and still didn't get a gold.If a kid is driven to do something,he'll do it,or ask for help with it.I will never push my kids to specialize or sacrifice being a kid for my satisfaction. If they want to do it,they will.
