one more...

You are given two options: 1. Pick a 5 man starting lineup for hoops out of 100 random guys. OR 2. Pick a 5 man starting lineup for hoops out of 200 random guys.

Come on...my tears are all over the keyboard now...

You also don't see a ton of studs like this on the A teams around here either...

That is Quippa....home of multiple former NFL players. We don't see that kind of talent that often.

Quipfan,
Glad to hear everything is great in Quip land. Boy they do have some players from that school but don't bring them to this area because that school is too big for this big time arguement. ha, ha, ha.

Coach,
So go coach where you got those types of players if you are complaining about numbers?? That is all you have to do. Maybe you wouldn't be a good coach if you had to coach those type of players, right?? Maybe you like coaching where you are at?? Good that things are working out for you!!Just never under-estimate your abilities, strive to be the best!!

all this talk about numbers makes me wonder where the terms UNDERDOG and UPSET came from? no matter where in the world u go, there will always be a weaker/smaller team in competition, but u know what? they still go out there and perform their hearts out, and probly more often then not, cause an UPSET! im with hollywood when he says that it seems like whats being said on here is that if ur smaller, ur gonna lose...well if that were the case, then i guess the super bowl, stanley cup, world series, nascar championships, world cup....all those trophies would be handed out like at the grammies...all the teams show up in tuxes and instead of competing, they get dolly parton up on stage and announces the winner.

im sayin Fact for the most part. What also helps is having good programs when the kids are young. If you have kids playing together for 6 or 7 years before they even start high school sports then they should be a decent team.

FACTION

there is no black and white here. it depends on the sport, the area the school is found in(rural, urban, suburban etc), the average income of the families living in the area, and even the weather can effect a schools athletic program. now in districts w/ close proximity to one another, some of these factors are not as influencial. i just thought id throw the weather thing in there for kix.

it seems like most of the posts on this topic deal w/ football. i think football is more dependent on school size than other sports. many different types of athletes form to make a quality football team. more people to pick from means a more diverse pool of athletes available to fill a team. therefore, football is more fact than fiction in my eyes.

a sport like soccer or baseball i dont think is as reliant on school size. i think these sports deal more w/ other things, such as what type of youth programs are available to kids at younger ages.

there are many other examples out there. what is fact is that you cannot prove for a fact that school size is the main determining factor as to if a sports program will win or lose.

FACT when the two schools competing have a large difference in size large (ex: bedford vs. nbc...bedford around double the enrollment...or...altoona vs. bedford...altoona with the much larger enrollment)

FICTION when the two schools competing have a small difference...when a bedford and a chestnut ridge meet or when a nbc or a claysburg meet the small size difference shouldn't make a difference...
