As a Bedford fan I will say that some Bison posters on here really get on my nerves too. It seems like they have no problem getting on here and bragging about Bedford, but have a big problem getting on the field and actually proving it. Guess we need to remember that most of them are just kids.
When I was in school (mid-late 80's), we prided ourselves on not only being good, but trying to be humble about it. You should always respect your opponent. Even today, you don't see the really good athletes on here talking themselves up and causing trouble. I don't think either Troy Harris or Brian Barefoot post on here because they are too busy trying to improve themselves.
I will say as a Bedford fan, that Ridge has the upper hand in sports right now. At least in wrestling, and probably football too. It's hard for Bison fans to admit that. There were many years that Ridge should have beaten Bedford, but they couldn't get over that mental hump. This group of kids at Ridge has finally done that, and they deserve to be recognized for it.
So don't hate all of Bison land. We're not all braggarts and egomaniacs. The ones that are out there give us a bad name at times though.

Unfortunately, you're mistaken...Tyrone won in 1999. MCA won in 2000, beating Aliquippa 26-6. Check http://www.wpial.org Click on the Champions Archives, select PIAA AA football.

Hollywood...Bigger is not ALWAYS better but it is usually better.

There are aborritions (sp?) but under normal circumstances the school with twice as many students will win 80% of the time.

That's why we have a class system, to create a fair playing field for playoffs. If bigger wasn't better why don't we just have a one class system for playoffs. After all, Bigger isn't better, right? Why do you think the state football coaches Association has been fighting to add a 5th and 6th classification the last 5 years. Guess the coaches realize the comparable enrollment creates a more level competitive playing field, don't they?

Thank you Analyst. I think that post was the most intelligent one I've seen on here in a long time from a Bedford fan.

You are correct in everything you've said. There were years that Ridge should've, could've beat Bedford in football and didn't. I really wish they would have played this year.

You are also correct in that not all Bedford fans are not arrogant like the ones on this site. I don't personally know Shoemaker, but I know Bill Creps and know that he is a class act (and should've been named the football coach for all he has done for the school). Together, those men have put out some excellent programs.

Ridge does have the upper now betweent the 2, especially in wrestling. Maybe they will meet in the football playoffs next year......

One of the things that is really sad about conference stuff....

No CR vs. Bedford on a yearly basis...neighbors, rivals...but they don't play

Hollywood says "That is fine but did the rest make sense? That is why you will be coaching around here for a long time, I see!!!"

I coached around here for a long time and hope I end my career here. All of your HS coaches coached around here there whole career, something wrong with that?

I'm proud of it. As only us small school coaches know, our jobs are tougher than the big school jobs in many respects. We have less kids to choose from....you don't see the big schools changing/tweaking the things they do because they don't have a QB who can throw in football in a particular year or they don't have a big guy who can eccentuate a low post offense in basketball every year. The small school coaches are more innovative, have to do more with less....less athleticism, less time (yes, we teach or work through the day whereas many big school coaches have lots of coaching prep time), less funding, etc.

Sounds like you make coaching at large school or college the end all for coaching and that we are minor pions here in the smaller High Schools of PA. Well, guess what....I turned down a college coaching opportunity once...it wasn't better, I would have lost money, lot's of it. I turned down a Quad-A opportunity one time because of circumstances and it was the right choice. It's great if you move on to a bigger school and do well or move on to Div. II as a head coach or DI as an assistant or head coach, you'll do well. Div. III and Assistant coaching at the DII level isn't the step up that everyone thinks it is, ask the people who have done it.
So, I'm proud to coach here locally and will be proud to finish my career here. And I've been around long enough and know enough people/have enough contacts to make a pretty good assumption that small school coaching is as tough a job as anywhere and that we work just as hard and have to be just as innovative without all of the "hype" or "perks" of a big school job.

I agree HR. Some of the best coaches I had were in hs. In fact I had a few coaches in college, who were terrible.

Bedrock, solid points. I wonder how many of those college coaches will remember your name after ten or twenty years. If my college coach saw me today, I would be surprised if he would remember my name.

I bet, if they are still around, everyone of your HS coaches will remember your name in twenty years.

I'll throw my two cents in.....it's my opinion that small school coaches know the ins-and-outs of football better than most big school coaches. In a larger school a coach has to worry about one aspect of the game for instance an O-line coach only has to worry about coaching the O- line as for a small school coach it's no uncommon for someone to be the O-line, D-line, special teams coach, etc.
