best district 5 runners ever
NB's Steve Moyer won WC twice according to Mr. Creps' article in the Gazette today. I know Steve ran when B. Sell did and Steve was the better of the two in HS. He was a great 1600/3200 guy....

okay, let me alter my question a little bit...........all the d5 greats race in their heyday........give me your top 5 for a 1600m race, who wins?
also, who was the best independant d5-runner ever????.......like, if their school had no track team, ran basically alone for his/her home school

Donnie Sanner placed 4th (I think) in the one mile, with a time of 4:29 and change. Megan Elder placed second in the one mile with a 5:16 something.
And I remember looking at the newspaper last year, or the year before to see how people were doing at states. Blackstone ran a 5:19 mile, but failed to advance, and an 11:44 two mile, but same story.
As far as standouts go, I'd have to agree with the three aforementioned people, Terry Croyle, Jason Coles, and Brian Sell. And it is worth noting that Brian Sell holds the fastest mile time at the district meet currently, with a 4;30.1. That may be broken this year according to the West Central Coaches results, and I would say the same for whatever the girl's mile record is at districts. In less than two weeks, we'll know.

I think a guy named Kirk Heath of Tussey holds the 1600 record at districts...4:29. I do agree with Head Roadie...the best was Bob(?) Snyder of McB.....I had forgotten about him. He went on to finish in the top 10 in Div. I Cross Country at Penn State.
If we are just talking 1600, Coles would be second. I'm not sure how fast Croyle ever ran the 1600 (but it had to be fast considering he ran a 9:16 in the 3200). Sell would be 4th (based on HS only). After that there seems to be a pretty big drop off. Moyer was a much better 3200 runner than 1600. Sanner is only a junior....probably best to wait until he's finished before he's ranked. Another Meyersdale kid....Guy Woods won two district titles in the 1600, but never placed at states.
