Guessing from his name that he lives somewhere in Bedford. And the only reason I can think of for letting them in his room is that he's a little nuts. I wonder how well he sleeps at night, keeping those poor creatures in his room like that. (not to mention how noisy they are, lol)

haha, i think he means his room @ school.

And bison...are you saying we'll see 2 inch cicadas outside that emerge from the ground or are you saying they get to 2 inches while living in captivity? From everything i've read, in the wild, they don't get much bigger than an inch, however, being a young buck i've never actually experienced the 'invasion'.

 I was wondering the same thing  . But like the other post said, maybe he meant they have some in school for science class or something.

bison1. the ones i have in my room were gathered by students a day or so ago. they emerged and the kids collected them. the actual body of the cicada is only about 1 inch long, but if you measure from tip of the head to tip of the wing most of the are between 1.5" and 2". i actually do sleep with the bugs too....ha

at the district meet tonite before the 4X800 relay we saw one flying around and started to fly straight at dave nicklis, he gave it one good wack with the baton and it was out cold, it was hilarious

I was out at Shawnee state park yesterday, and saw several of them, probably about 40-50 just walking along the Lake Shore trail, and I saw hundreds of shells. It seems they especially like the trees near the swimming area of the lake, as I saw hundreds of shells in that area, and many live ones. I can see why they are so clumsy too, as many of them seem to mess up their wings right from the start. So I was somewhat amused at that. Oh, and if you catch one, and just put it on your thumb, as long as you don't move it around much, it will just stay there for a while. They seem to be comfortable just sitting around for the most part. I also observed a newly emerged cicade, that looked like a female with an egg sac. I had to edit this post, as I discovered I was mistaken. Oops..
