Legion vs. Federation
Legion vs. Federation
Why do all federation coaches hate legion baseball?

Now with the Legion team in Claysburg, it's taking some valuable players from my uncle's Federation team. I believe that legion lets you see the ability of people all over this area. Federation around here, is mainly focused mostly in the Altoona/Tyrone and even into the Spring Cove area.
Both are a pretty good competition, but there is only one way to go........AAABA!!!!!!!

i would have to say legion mainly because the cambria county legion covers a lot more area than the federation...the legion league covers all of cambria county, somerset county, bedford county, and now even blair county while the kelly federation is, like nbcwrestler said, pretty much just blair county...also, legion is state and nationwide and is the most popular teenage league around while the federation isn't near as popular overall...

Having played in both leagues i can tell you that legion is much better. Federation isnt taken as seriously and seemed like just another summer league. I played for locker room a few times when i was 15 cause they had less than 9 guys show up. Legion on the otherhand is run just like high school games with PIAA umpires. The teams cover a much larger area so each team is basically an all-star team in itself.

I don't like what Legion ball has become. It used to be area vs area. But Phillipsburg's Legion team for example goes to states regularly and last year was in the title game. That's great but their team this year will consist of a couple kids from Tyrone,Potter and the P-O studs, plus 3 from WestBranch,Keith from Mo Valley, and one or 2 other recruits. They better be good!

on eaglealum's note, i guess that a lot of places have dropped their legion programs and that is why you see so many schools combine to make a larger and better team...i know everett used to have a legion team a while back, my grandfather actually played for them...and i know that nbc kids used to play on claysburg's legion team until it was dropped...so with everett and claysburg no longer having legion teams, everyone in the bedford county area, plays for bedford's legion team...if there were more teams still around you would see more of the 'area vs area' stuff...

Nationally, federation baseball represents a higher level of competition than Legion. Obviously there are pockets where Legion is stronger head to head with federation.
Personally I am glad to see Claysburg start up another local Legion team. It always was curious to me why the Bedford Legion team always carried such a heavy load of Bedford players and very few from the neighboring areas. Now, having said that it appears this seasons roster has more from Everett and NBC.
Federation has some very well ran regional and national tournaments that allow for a wide range of exposure to some of the top talent from around the world.
