Truth- I swear to GOD. I worked a couple years ago with a (white) man from Windber, and 2 (black) men from Johnstown. The one from Windber when referring to his hometown, to the 2 others, called it LYNCHBURG. Sad to say, there are, ummmm, differences of "opinions" still prevalent in the area. I was told by a former Tech school instructor from York that the greatest concentration of KKK on the EAST COAST was in a triangle area of Pa.-Md. comprising of eastern Adams County (Pa.), western York Co.(Pa.), and northern Carroll Co.(Md.) take it for what it's worth.

I think I've gotten a pretty good idea that as long as I'm white, fairly conservative and Christian I'll be fine. Which is good because I'm white, fairly conservative and Christian. I want a good place to raise my children where they will be safe. While still fairly young (under 40) I'm not into drugs and am, in fact, a recovering alcoholic. I don't drink, do drugs or march for liberal causes.
I've checked out what I can online, but there isn't a lot of information on housing (rentals). I haven't been offered a job, but I believe I am a finalist for one that is open in Bedford and would pay well enough for me to move my family there.
Again, I thank everyone who has taken the time to fill me in.

Work is for people who do not golf

If you want info on housing, your two best choices are the Bedford Gazette (the only local paper) or going through a real estate office. I would think $500-600 would get you a pretty decent apartment or a house.
Three local realtors are Bedford County Real Estate, West Realty, and Coldwell Banker. Hopefully that helps.
The Bedford area is very rich in history and tourism helps the economy around here. But there have been many manufacturing jobs lost over the last couple of years. My wife and I are fortunate to have good jobs, but we both work in Altoona. Best of luck.
