Nice fun filled evening with the Pony League...

Post by Coach »

Well, I showed up in Williamsburg to umpire tonight. Problem is....Williamsburg's team didn't show up. Instead of sending everyone home we fielded a team of adults from the crowd (parents, coaches, friends, umps, etc) to play the youngsters from Central. What a great time!!! Fun, fun, and more fun with the young guys. We even got them out on a GREAT hidden ball trick!

I had fun because I hadn't played ball since like 8th grade. I even had a pretty good game, and that is a good think considering how bad I was in junior high  The game ended after 4 innings and the score was 9-9. Our adult team had two guys in their 20's then a bunch of adults. It was awesome playing some ball with Lew Ewart, who was coaching us and really into it. He made contact twice and got a base hit I believe. I just thought it was great playing with guys age 14-70 having all kinds of fun. Stuff like this needs to happen more....

Sounds good, I've been doing nothing but umpiring games, mostly minor league and little league, since schools been out and I've now more than ever realized how much it sucks not being able to play summer ball. I'd played for the last 11 years of my life and it totally bites that i can't play this year.

We need a field and an evening or two a week where anyone from BC, young or old could show up and play some ball....this could be another promising idea to close out the summer. I ump a bunch though until like July 8th, after that though...I'd be good until football starts :cheesy:
