HS Football Broadcasts in Bedford County
I know it's jumping the gun a little, but I wonder if there will be two games broadcast this year like last year. Worked out pretty well, it seemed to me.

WHo are the commentators and play callers for the bedford station these days? I sure missed George Sciranko when he passed away. What a lightning rod he was. He was 100% enthusiasm regardless of what game he was calling. His shoes were certainly hard if not impossible to fill.

John Topper and Bill Edwards have been doing the games since George died. Sam Shuss and someone else (sorry, forget who) started doing the second broadcast last year.

Only got to hear the second broadcast once last year but liked what I heard. As a fan wouldn't it be good if the two broadcasts got together and tried to avoid broadcasting the same game.
Regarding the current broadcasts, I would like to see the Edwards/Topper team lose the comedy routine that seems to find its way into their broadcasts. Both are very knowledgable sports people, but they seem to want to interject jokes and other irrelevant information into their broadcast. IMO most of the people who have tuned in want to hear the game/meet details and other local sports information not other "fill".
Also wouldn't a post game show, especially during football season, with scores and possibly coach and/or player interviews be fun.
I also would like to see them add an additional commentator with a strong basketball background. Mr. Topper is no doubt an excellent and knowledgable commentator on football and wrestling, but he seems limited at times in his basketball knowledge. IMO he does a quality job talking about the athletes but struggles with the actual game strategy.
Hopefully this isn't construed as a criticism because it is not. Just an observation. I think Mr. Edwards and Mr. Topper do a tremendous job bringing the local sports scene recognition, and hope they continue to do so for many years.

Bill Edwards and John Topper will be returning this year for football broadcasts on WAYC 100.9. Can't speak for the Everett station, but I've not heard of any changes. I'm told the broadcast schedule is being finalized. More on that later.

It is interesting to hear comments referring to Bill Edwards comedy routine. From what I remember of listening to Bill he was rather stiff and perhaps boring. Knowedgeable for sure, but IMO lacked the zip and enthusiasm to keep your attention.

Bill was in the unenviable position of following a local legend like George. Overall I think he and Top do a good job. All you have to do is move around the radio dial on Friday and Saturday nights in the fall and you can hear some real losers.

So true foghorn. They do a nice job with football in the fall. You can tell by listening to those broadcasts that both know their football.
I like the idea of a post-game show during football season, too.

Thanks, yugo. Only one Ridge game on WAYC? Somebody missed the boat there.
