What would the IUP indians mascot be?? One would assume an Indian, Hence the name Indian...but wait, Its a trick question. Its actually a bear. hmm, now why would IUP be named the indians but the mascot is a bear.

CKtrackstar, from one IUP alum to a future one, Cherokee the bear, or as we used to call him, Cherokee "the non-racial" bear is the design of a sorry attempt for political correctness. apparently, the less than one percent of the student population with american indian blood was getting upset at our warrior. so the presidents solution was keep our name, but make the mascot a bear, but then tack a freakin tribal name on it.

SMU, stands for Southern Methodist University, and they are the Mustangs, but I'm not sure if they use that for a mascot??
