Overall, football is weak in the Philly Public league

Don't expect much of an impact in football.

Basketball will be another story.

Do people realize that some of those Philly Public League schools will be playing AAA and even AA???? It will be a BLOODBATH.

Slippery Rock returns 4 of 5 linemen, the qb was a soph, and so was the one rb. The other rb was a senior, they also lost Rich Lee the LB that was all over the field at mansion Park and had like 20 tackles against us. And the McCaffrey kid was a senior too. Everyone else should be back for them.
..Titan, 1st of all, if you look at our history with the WPIAL, we are 4-1 against Wpial teams. We beat Mohawk twice when I was in school in a home/home 2 year contract(shortly after the leather helmets were retired). And are 2-1 against your WPIAL champions.Hardly your average deer in the headlights.....2nd of all, from what I hear, the district 5/6 champ, whoever it may be, will play the WPIAL champs in the Western semi's. So the Quips/Burrell/Seton LaSalle survivor will have to strap them up against some real competition a week earlier than anticipated. If it ain't us, I'll be wearing Green and Gold the next week just to root on the home area boys(man I hope it doesn't come to that)

I'm sure the WPIAL AA champ will be shaking in their cleats at the sound of "Forest Hills" or "Tyrone."

4-1 vs. the WPIAL? Mohawk has a shaky program. You were 2-1 then against other teams? Tyrone beat Waynesburg with their once-in-a-lifetime team. Who else did Tyrone beat?

The WPIAL will be playing some "real competition" a week earlier? C'mon, man...Have you ever seen the 16 team WPIAL AA tournament??? You think those teams don't beat one another up 4 games in a row???? We're not talking about United, Penns Valley, Mo Valley, and Purchase Line here, bud!!!

The stark reality: In most years, each of the WPIAL AA quarterfinalists could win 6-AA!! Even in the down years, the top 4 WPIAL AA teams win 6-AA. Don't kid yourself. Once every 25 years or so, Tyrone or FH or Sharon will come up with an excellent team who can beat the WPIAL's best in AA. FH and Tyrone have won once. Let's not even talk about that FH/Seton LaSalle bloodbath a few years back. SL by 4 TDs in D6's back yard. 'Nuff said there.

BTW, tomorrow is opening day for WPIAL football practice. Isn't life grand??

I believe if you check, Mohawk was at least respectable in the 80's(my days), As far as the "modern day 2-1" the loss was to Burrell in '95, with wins coming in '96 vs the quips, and '99 vs. Waynesburg.

Any team from around the area to have a chance to make some noise in the inter-district play this season??

AAAA- no chance
AAA- J-town and Clearfield are both looking real tough on paper
AA- D 5/6 should be tough through the top 5 or 6 teams. Best chance to advance is the Rangers or Eagles
A- If anyone can win a game beyond districts, it's probably Carroll

Goodwill,
You are obviously at an advantage here. You've seen me play, and I can't say the same.Or is it because you never did?
