I think a better quote can be attributed to the "blame shifter" (Paterno) who opted for the Orange Bowl rather than the Cotton Bowl to play the Texas-Arkansas winner that year because he wanted his team to "have fun" and Miami was more fun than Dallas. Fine....have fun, but don't turn around and blame Richard Nixon for not winning the national championship when you weren't willing to play for it. This is the first of several JoPa'isms that strayed me from my family and my area's love affair with the Nit's. At 9 years old I could see through his b.s. and can remember how pissed my uncle was that I actually questioned the bowl decision instead of blaming Tricky Dick with all the other blinded by JoPa PSU faithful.
