Re: GOP Convention
Kerry spoke to defend himself, what was he supposed to do? Sit back and do nothing the cons. blasted him about everything he has ever said or done? If that would've happened, you would all be saying how week he is.

Many successes?! LP, you and I live in separate realities.
Personally, I'm glad Kerry got off his dang wind surfboard and fought back. He needs to follow Truman's advice because W certainly is:
Carry the battle to them. Don't let them bring it to you. Put them on the defensive and don't ever apologize for anything. -- Harry S. Truman

Re: GOP Convention
Yeah - we do live in different realities. I like lower taxes, you must like higher taxes. I like the government to give me the freedom to spend my $$ the way I see best, not the government spending it for me. I like providing our military with the best of equipment, you want to cut back on that. I enjoy less government in my life, you want more. I want activist judges off the bench, you want judges making laws. I could go on, and on.
I have no problem with Kerry defending his record. I just wish he would focus on his record for once. It should be about a 30 second speech because he has no record worth touting.
What would you have said if the President would have been campaigning during the Dem convention? That was dirty politics and you know it. No one ever before has dropped that low, but I guess no one has ever been that desperate before either. That goes to show you that Kerry will try to do ANYTHING to win this election. To be honest, this doesn't even bother me near as much as him politicizing the war on terror, thus weakening our defense and embolding the terrorists.

Re: GOP Convention
No, LP, the countless personal attacks on the senator were dirty politics.
You wish Kerry would focus on his record, well I wish Bush's cronies would have focused on his miserable record over the past four years rather than praising his ability to make this country safer. All the Bushies talk about is September 11th and the war on terror, well, I hate to break it to you, but any president put in that situation would have handled it well. The country was attacked, and no matter what the conservatives say, any president, Bush Sr to Clinton, would have handled the situation just as well.

I agree, 11th. And what's worse, after 9/11 W. could have forged a global alliance on terrorism because the general world feeling so was sympathetic toward America. Instead he listens to a bunch of misguided idealogues who, as I've said before, want to play Risk with our lives. And now Afganistan is worse than it ever was, Iraq's a mess with Islamic fundamentalists now suddenly empowered, and North Korea and Iran are suddenly sitting in the driver's seat. And we are totally alone except for GB ( can you say, "Goodbye, Tony?") and a couple other countires that couldn't keep Bedford County in order (change that to Napier Township) let alone help out in Iraq.
And LP: (you wrote:"Yeah - we do live in different realities. I like lower taxes, you must like higher taxes. Yeah, the government does control too much of our lives (and as far as Big Government goes, there's no appreciable difference between either party no matter what either the Dems or GOPS say.) We don't live in a Jeffersonian state anymore with 15 million people. If we did, we'd probably all be on the same page.
And LP, don't you think it's cheeky to speak about activist judges after what the Supreme Court did at the last election?
I think we can agree on one thing, though:
"Go Lions!!!"

Foghorn, how much time will have to pass before the Democrats get over the fuddling of the election in Florida?
Isnt it better in retrospect that an unbiased group of judges determine the outcome of an increasingly volatile situation? The alternatives that were being presented at the time were clearly partisan and degrading our electoral process to a mode of chaos.
What do you base your judgement upon that Afghanistan is worse now than ever?

So it's ok for Ted Kennedy to compare Bush to the Nazi's, it's ok for Al Gore to scream that the President betrayed his country, and it's ok for Dennis Kucinich (sp) to suggest that the President knew about 9/11 before it happened? These aren't a group of ordinary citizens doing that, it's leaders of the Democratic party. You can say that the Bush administration is linked to the swift boat guys, but there's just as many ties from the Democratic party to moveon and notinourname.
The Bush administration has done nothing but praise JK's service to his country. Pointing out is voting record is dirty politics? So, we're not allowed to question his service record when he makes his 4 months the cornerstone of his campaign, we're not allowed to criticize his anti-war activities when he returned and his comrades are still being tortured in POW camps, and we're not allowed to question his voting record in the Senate. Gee, I think the Republicans should just roll over and hand Kerry the election.
It's funny how the Kerry campaign and all you Democrats tout free speech, yet you try to silence anyone that speaks out against him. Just ask the swift boat, guys that served a hell of a lot longer than 4 months, guys that earned their share of medals, guys that stood with their comrades when they returned. Kerry's lawyers did everything in their power to shut them up, even sending threatening letters to networks not to publish their ads, and to publishers to not publish the book "Unfit for Command".
Let's see, the Afghan people can now disagree with their government without fear of being shot in a public soccer stadium, women can vote and hold office, children can now go to school and learn something other than radical Islam. More than one religion can now be practiced in that country, without fear of being killed because of it. Ancient Buddist icons will no longer be destroyed. Yeah sure, the Afghan people have it worse off now than they did with the Taliban. Get real. As for Iraq, was Japan rebuilt in a year? Was Germany? Heck, was the United States democratic process perfect in a year after the Revolutionary war? Do you honestly believe the Iraqi people are worse off now than they were under Saddam? If you would watch something other than CNN for once, and see some interviews with ordinary Iraqi people, most are happy now that Saddam is gone. Do they want us out? Sure, they do. Are we working towards that? Absolutely. But we can't leave there until the Iraqi government is stable. Just ask Germany and Japan.
As for the activist judges comment, I find it humorous that you guys are still focusing on the 2000 election, when liberal media like the NYT did their own recount (a couple of times), and always came up with the same conclusion - Bush won Florida. Thank God the Supreme Court got that one right. In fact, the Supreme Court did their job by stepping in on that one. Dawg had it right, the situation was becoming chaotic and something had to be done. A judge is there to intrepret laws, not make laws. Many of our liberal judges today fail to recognize that distinction.

I would expect that if the table had been turned in the Florida fiasco, Republicans would still be chewing it to death too.
Yeah, LP, Afganistan is a real paradise now. I expect loyal Republicans to start making it a vacation destination very soon now.
How do you know what I watch? It's sure not CNN, I'll tell you that. I think I check out a wide variety of places, including your beloved neocons. Some of my latest info comes from that radical leftist Pat Buchanan.
Not to change the subject, but wasn't it classy of Cheney to include his daughter in all the festivities at the GOP Convention? Especially after he made so bold as to disagree with W earlier in the week about various gay-related subjects.

My last observation about the GOP convention:
Handing out Purple Heart band aids on the convention floor was hateful, ugly, and dishonored all those who have ever been awarded them.
For me personally, that includes three of my uncles who fought in WWII, one of whom was killed in Italy in 1944.
In trying to mock Kerry, mocked one our country's greatest military awards.

Re: GOP Convention
I never said Afghanistan was a paradise. You however did say that it is worse now than when the Taliban ruled. Think about what you said. Once again I think I factually rebutted one of your "off the cuff" statements, and you're turning it around into something else. You really are a Democrat.
I agree the purple heart band-aid was in very poor taste and was uncalled for. I personally condemn it as well. I guess you're blaming the Bush campaign for a single delegate making a very poor decision. I guess that's why the Bush campaign, as soon as they found out what was going on, asked this delegate to stop it immediately. But hey, you seem to want to throw every problem out there at Bush's feet, so why not this too.
So now you want to focus on Cheney. Ok, let's focus on the 2nd guy for a minute.
Want to know the reason why your health insurance is so high? Want to know why doctors can't afford malpractice insurance anymore? It's because of trial lawyers making millions for themselves over junk science. Can you think of anyone that made his millions this way? I sure can. Yet, and here's the hyprocrocy of the Dems once again, he'll stand up on that podium and scream about the high cost of health insurance and that something must be done about it.
