Huntingdon got sooo much rain yesterday. The Juniata river is cresting at about 17 feet right now & the levees that protect the surrounding towns are close to giving way. Downtown Huntingdon is completely flooded & it's impossible to leave the town by way of Rt.22. Rt. 26 toward State College is still open, but is treacherous.
Altoona was also flooded yesterday evening along the main strip.
I heard that back home there was a tornado watch & they got more than 5 1/2 inches of rain. Mom said that there was actually a tornado in the St. Thomas/Fort Loudon area.
Crazy stuff...

Here are some pictures from just down the river from Huntingdon in Mapleton Depot, Mill Creek and Kistler (part of Mount Union). The only way out of Mapleton right now is through Hares Valley. After you get to Barneytown, you can either go to Huntingdon via the cross-over and Polecat Hollow, or Mount Union via Three Springs. It takes longer to get to the crossover than it does to normally get to Huntingdon and Mount Union combined.
**WARNING SOME OF THESE PICTURES ARE EXTREMELY LARGE FILES. I MADE THEM SUCH, SO THAT THEY WOULD BE WIDE-ANGLE AND BETTER CLARITY.**
Mapleton Railroad Underpass
From on the Railroad Underpass, where those people are standing is now underwater too.
The "Blue Juniata," whitewater rafting anybody?
Riverside Park in Mapleton, the water is over 8 feet deep at that point.
Shot underneath the Mapleton Bridge, that's a burning barrel out there.
Toward the US Silica Plant, I noticed several trees driving on the wrong side of the road.
Toward Mapleton-Union Elementary School, 2 of 3 exits from Mapleton are sealed.
We made it out of Mapleton and this is Kistler near Mount Union.
Around that bend is Riverside Park, or where Riverside Park usually is.
The US Silica Plant of Mapleton, half underwater; but still operational.
Half a mile or so from the Mapleton bridge at the US Silica Plant.
Mill Creek Lion's club building and recreational park. I watched a picnic table float from one end of the field to the other.
Finally at the end of a 45 minute trip that usually takes 2, this is the old softball field just outside of Mapleton.
I'd like to see other people's pictures, especially people in Huntingdon. I work at Giant and it was still pretty high tonight when I was at work.

Re: Ivan
I heard through the grapevine that this was Huntingdon's worst flood since the mid-70's, but that it was only about the 4th worst ever.
