Bedford @ Central Cambria
Re: Bedford @ Central Cambria
Size does matter, but speed kills. A team with more speed usually has a bigger advantage over the team with more size.

Quite true with the speed analysis. Another point to ponder is that Bedford has the luxuary if you will of being able to strike quickly and that bodes well in terms of making up a deficit or gong for the Jugular with a lead.
Too many high school teams lack the ability to score quickly and from anywhere on the field. Bedford has that potential.
But, potential is such a deadly word, especially when dealing with teens.

speed kills...just ask Kanuch of westmont after the Bedford game (note the sarcasm)....speed does kill, no doubt about that, BUT, if you can contain that speed like bedford did in week 2, then it does absolutely nothing for you, luckily for bedford tho, they dont have one or two guys with enough speed to do damage...they have THREE, a team with CC's size could handle one speedster, possibly two...but with bedfords version of cerberus, i dont see the CC defense putting up good stats at all in this game.

Bedford has to hope the horses can all go the entire game this week too. There has been that problem with guys not staying healthy.

Well 3 fast guys can't all get the ball on the same play, unless you bring back the Jet package. Jet right reverse..... 3 guys touch the ball there, that's about it. The DEs for CC will have to play their hearts out if they want to win. Still, Bedford will get their big plays. However, they'll have to go to the power game to score in the redzone..... CC's game is focused on power football. The only way Bedford scores are on broken plays, which I think the CC defense will limit. The score will be a lot to a few in CC's favor.
Regarding speed, GUNNER makes a fine point. Contain the speed, win the game. Once again, as long as CC is quick to the ball, no speed help. Speed only helps after you get past the defense, you have to make it through it first. Speed DOESN'T kill..... if that were so then every team that had a fast player would be awesome, which isn't true. (Somerset for example: Josh Simmons) It's just a nice "add-on".

I disagree. Speed has a big enough impact on the outcome of games that I believe it's worthy of the title "speed kills". I would imagine our friends in Sidman would be inclined to agree. Speed is one of the few factors and can make or break your team. If I coached an average football team and i had the option of adding a speedster or somone overly strong...or for that matter a speedster compared to anyone else...I would take the speed.
Here is an example:
Take Westmont (2-2). Brad Kanuch is the reason they have 2 wins. He is very fast.
In my opinion this is basic math:
Westmont - Brad Kanuch = (0-4)
what are some other thoughts?

Re: Bedford @ Central Cambria
3 Speedsters has to be a big help, but who will play the sound and consistent football game for 4 quarters, execute basic block and tackle football. I have not seen either team play this year, but go bison.
Re: Bedford @ Central Cambria
Speed is important, but I truly believe the big difference between speed this year and last at BHS is the speed of the line. I've always favored smaller quicker linemen who have good technique. Our offense doesn't require blowing anyone off the ball.
Gunner, there are definitely more than 3 guys at BHS with real deal speed. It just so happens everyone talks about the three.

wolverine, 3 people may not be able to touch the ball at the same time but if you have the option to go to any of those 3, then it causes alot more headaches for the defense, Bedford was able to contain Kanuch so well because he was the only threat that westy had so the bedford D could focus on Brad and be safe about it. but throw in there 2 other guys that the D has to focus on then you have to worry about new assignments and guys going every which way...its alot harder to prevent a multitude of options rather than just one.
and bedrock i know theres alot more speed on the team, but the majority of it comes from the brothers and their cousin.
