Re: Skills Vs Refs
I think our D5 needs many younger refs, ones that have played soccer in the past and know what it is like to be on the field as a player. This would prevent stupid calls even though it is common for minor errors to occur.
One thing that really annoys me is when a ref calls a foul for going shoulder to shoulder or playing agressive, who said soccer isnt a contact sport because some refs seem to think that.

Beautifully said...that was my biggest peave with the reffing. With D5 refs, you better not be stronger than the other guy, 'cause if you go shoulder to shoulder and he falls down, he's getting the call.

Re: Skills Vs Refs
I've always felt that if a ref controlled the game without disrupting the overall flow of the action, they did a good job. Some refs call every little thing and I never knew what they were thinking. I think that if we could get some younger refs, people who grew up playing D5 soccer, the games would be better officiated. These new refs would know how the game is supposed to flow and call it accordingly, instead of trying to learn that from an instruction manual as alot of the refs around here have.
