I mean can't you just give some one credit and not argue with people all the time? And I do agree that speed isn't everything, but it helps.
Re: D5 defenders
Not to get off of the subject of defenders, but I think that you might want some speed on a breakaway. Just my opinion

Trust me its not your knowledge that offends me, to do that you would have to have some knowledge in the first place...by the the way incase you were wondering I am not trying to attack you or anything I have no problem with you opinions or Ideas. I just get bored sometimes and need someone to argue with. By the way Gunner what is Bedfords record anywya and where are they ranked?

sportsguy, speed HELPS, yes, but it alone cannot make someone good, i would bet the farm that just about any defender around here could take Maurice Greene to school! if you have a guy on a breakaway that can run a 4.0 40, but cant kick a ball to save his life, then its not gonna be very effective is it? speed is only good when you have the other skills to back it up.
its all good alltimenb, im not tryin to attack you either, just pointing out some facts is all. anyway bedford finished the regular season last night with an 8-0 victory over forest hills, which gives us a 14-6 record on the season and puts us in 4th place enabling us to host #5 somerset in the quarterfinals with the winner traveling to huntingdon in the semis.

Man today I just seem to be agreeing with Gunner right and left. If you have speed and nothing else, you're already beat. There are two ways to beat a man in soccer, change of speed and change of direction. If you can't defend both your done. Also there is a certain amount of instinct to playing defense, if you know where to put yourself to cut off passes and stop breakaways before they happen speed doesn't matter that much. Speed is nice but hopefully you're good enough that you only need it once or twice a game.(or not at all)

I agree with Count.... The line that J-town Christian has is pretty good. IMO your going to need both speed and skills, Every defender will get burned at some point and time and you have to have the speed to get back there. Its the skill that prevent it from happening a second time.
