Dave Wannstedt resigns
The head coach of the Miami Dolphins resigned earlier this morning, after Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The Dolphins are at 1-8 right now, and one more loss will be their first losing season since 1988. Possible replacements mentioned during speculation were Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban, Charlie Weis (Patriots' offensive coordinator), and Brad Childress (offensive coordinator of Eagles).
I personally feel bad for the guy. Ricky Williams quits just before training camp, so that the team can't trade for a good running back, then David Boston suffered a season ending injury before the season started. The Dolphins' biggest problem has been the lack of a running game, with the running back carousel in full swing. They also don't have a good QB, which is even worse since they don't have a good prime time receiver.

Penn State doesn't want Dave he is a big retard...thats why the Dolphins haven't been able to make it to the play for a while...and when they do they alway lose in the first round. Penn State would be better off without a head coach. I would take coach in the NFL over Dave Wannstedt. (Like you said in class today...I'd even have you as a coach over him Mr. Brode!!!)

Re: Dave Wannstedt resigns
I think for this man to take a team to two winning seasons with Jay Fiedler at QB speaks much about his ability. He had a QB that was well below average, and average receivers, and was still able to win 9 or 10 games a season. This year though, when Ricky retired, and he was left without a running game, the ground fell out from under him. I think with an average QB, like say a Matt Hasselback or a Byron Leftwich, he could have taken Miami into the second round of the playoffs those years, maybe a bit further depending. He is a victim of his circumstances. If he could recruit a little talent at PSU, he could do a lot with it.
Keep in mind that Steve Superior went 7-9 and 5-11 in two years at the Redskins, yet won over 80% of the time at Florida State. The NFL is much harder to coach.

Re: Dave Wannstedt resigns
I don't even understand how Wannstadt got that Miami job. How do you do horrible at a previous job and get picked for another one? Dave Wannstadt seems like he's probably a really good guy, but is he a good NFL coach? Obviously not. Also, people are talking badly of Wannstadt hypothetically becoming the next coach at Penn State. Why is that such a bad idea? The levels are very different from bottom to top. He might be the greatest college coach in the world and a failure in the NFL. I'm not petitioning for him or anything, but the guy does have some experience at least. I'd be willing to give him a chance. Besides, how much worse could he be than Jay Paterno or Fran Ganter? ...or dare I mention Mike McQueary?
