Foghorn, I would say that most people regardless of their political stance respect Rather for the things on your list. The right seemed to hate him more for his Liberal quarterbacking from the broadsacter chair. His choice of words in describing anything conservative was obviously a reflection of his political bias.

foggy - you're smart enough to know that there's no way Rather runs a negative story about Kerry 50 days before the election. At best he certainly would have done a lot more due diligence instead of blindly accepting it as fact before going with a story that hurt Kerry.

When somebody begins a sentence "you're smart enough to know," they really mean "you're not smart enough to know."

Re: Dan Rather
Of course Dan Rather would have run a negative story about John Kerry. He did cover the swift boat veterans story. Yes, I know he didn't cover it the way Fox covered it. And yes, he would have double checked his sources before running a negative story on Kerry.
There was a study done on broadcast news stations during the months of June, July and August. Of the 3 major networks, ABC,CBS and NBC, John Kerry was portrayed positively 6 out of 10 times. On Fox News, during the same time span, John Kerry was portrayed negatively 5 out 6 times.
So you are right, the networks may be biased to the left, but certainly not to the extent that Fox is biased to the right.
