I think that the Notre Dame game was a spanking don't get me wrong but did anyone notice while Notre Dame was taking the spanking with 6 minutes left in the 4th that Carroll called for a fake punt and then the next play threw for the endzone...not sure what he was trying to do...I guess he figured running up the score will make sure he gets enough BCS votes...oh how I hope they face Auburn in the championship game...but it wont happen...I was disgusted with how he was running up the score though I hope he goes to the pros after this year to tank another franchise..has already successfully tanked 2 franchises before...I have lost all respect for Carroll and the USC Trojans...not saying they aren't good so dont take what i said the wrong way

Hey, it's a rivalry game, and Notre Dame has no business on the same field as USC. You wanna schedule good teams you have no chance of beating, you get pounded. I would run it up to 100 on ND if I had the chance.

that and ND has a historic record of being one of the elite teams in the nation why not run up the score? it's a big rivalry between the two! i hate to put it into perspective this way, but just think about it, if ridge and bedford played each other, would either one stop running up the score? i think not!

Im sure you would feel that way Holly if you were on the team having the score ran up on you..let's say when you played for WVU and the other team had the chance to run up the score you would you be like go ahead and do it i want you to play to the final whistle

If you are up 49, put the second team in. But, run your offense. Don't run 3 dives and punt. No one benefits from that. If that defense can't stop the second team, score 600 points.

If you are a good team then you will never get the score ran up on you, if so it is your own fault!!

I don't think he was out of line. I'm sure Notre Dame has done it too many teams over the years. In college football right now, I'd be putting as many points on the board as possible. You never know what the voters are going to take into consideration. You need to win and win big.

Exactly. I've stated many times on here that to get points for a BCS bowl, especially with human polls as two thirds of the equation, you need to completely and utterly annihilate the other team. With a BCS bid at stake for USC, and a bid to the national championship to boot, I cannot fault Pete Carroll for running up the score. He is simply doing what he thinks he must do to secure that bid.

Here's an interesting question:

How many of you people here at Bleacher Coaches vote in any of the NCAA polls?

Exactly.

So what does that show us? How come all of us simpletons are smart enough to see that blowout wins get attention from the supposed expert voters, yet winning close games against decent competition usually ends up HURTING you? Why is it that the people who vote do not understand that Auburn beating a VERY under-rated Alabama is infinitely more appetizing than seeing OU beat up on Baylor?

I would almost like to see the fans register someplace (to avoid cheating and voting 600 times) and then get a share of the power in a "fan's poll". But, even that has problems, as it turns into a popularity contest. I can see it now: Notre Dame and Florida State are 8-3 and ranked 4th and 5th in the country while Northern Illinois beats mid-level teams in respected conferences (teams like Maryland, Texas Tech), goes undefeated at 11-0 and is coincidentally left out of the top 25.

You gotta love this current system we're in. Even if they DO go to a playoff (in about 2190) there will still be controversy. Because people who say "well Oklahoma was tired of playing and they trailed off in the playoffs, but they could have killed USC 2 months ago."
